In round robin play, the Atom Sailorettes would face off against the Clearview Ice Kats. The game would end 4-0 for the Sailorettes. Friday night would see the girls defeat Yosem- ite,Sam's girls, the Chatham Outlaws 3-0. This would earn them top spot in their pool and a bye to the quarter final round. The quarter final game would prove to be the toughest of the tournament against the St. Catharines Chaos. After regulation time, the game would end 4-4. It would take five pe- riods to decide the game, but at 8:27 of the second 10 -minute overtime, the Sailorettes would dig the puck past the Chaos netminder to earn their spot in the semi-finals. The semi-final game would see the girls take on the Chatham Outlaws who had upset the Smith Falls Cubs in another quarter final round. The Sailorettes were determined to play for gold and would send the Outlaws to the bronze medal game with a 2-0 win. The 2009 Atom 'BB' Provincial final would be played at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday April 19. It was the Goderich Atom Sailorettes vs The St. Thomas Panthers. The game was an intense battle of skill and determination with few shots on net but a lot of back and forth play. The game remained scoreless until 9:17 of the third period when the Sailorettes would open the scoring with a beautiful breakaway and top shelf razer past the the Panthers' netmind- er. The game would continue to be a see -saw battle and at 2:36 of the third, the Sailorettes got called for a delay of game penalty, after a frantic scramble in their end. The Panthers pulled their netminder for the sixth skater however, this did not work in their favour and with 1:07 left in the game, the Sail- . orettes cleared the puck into the Panther net to seal their victory. Well done girls - undefeated in five games. The season has been a tremendous suc- cess for the atoms. They won five tournament championships, were finalists at an 'A' tourna- ment, are Regional Silver Stick champions, International Silver. • Stick champions and OWHA atom 'BB' provincial champions. Their record for the season was a remark- able 57-3-3. We knew we were the best Atom BB team in Ontario.
