Cleaners celebrate first year

"It's all about the shine," Geoff Brunkard
explains with a laugh.
Brunkard and his partner Paul Good run
Window Shines, a local company that is about
to celebrate its first year in business, offering
window washing and cleaning, power wash-
ing and eavestrough cleaning in Huron Coun-
ty.
The pair, who opened their business in May
of last year, explained that the success they are
seeing is due to their business attitude; no job
is too small.
"Whether its just the one window you can't
reach, or you need your entire garage, includ-
ing walls and floors, cleaned, we can help you
out," Brunkard said.
The company provides cleaning of many
different surfaces with their power -washing
equipment, including concrete and steel.
"One thing we've found is that a lot of people
will turn their garage into a room where people
can sit and play cards or watch TV, and people
smoking in those rooms can stain the walls.
You can sit there with a cleanser trying to get it
off, or we can come in and power -wash it off,
just like that," Brunkard explained.
Good, who once ran a local window wash-
ing company called Window Washing Plus,
explained that it may seem repetitive to say
they both wash and clean windows, but they
are two different things.
"Cleaning, anyone can do that, get up there
and spray it down and wipe it down, but to
wash a window, we go up with razor blades
and scrape all the debris off and take it right
down to the shine."
The pair say that business has increased ex-
ponentially since their opening, claiming that
they may soon be looking for another two-
man team to help them cover all their jobs.
"It takes us about two hours to do newer
homes, three to four hours on older homes, but
thats an average," Brunkard said. "We some-
times run into windows that have been sealed
shut, or painted over on both sides, so we cut
them out and clean them. Whatever we see
when we go to a place we take care of."
Servicing businesses, cottages, farms and
residences, the pair said that they will go to
10-15 locations a week during the spring and
summer.
They enjoy being their own bosses, with
Brunkard claiming .that the inspiration came
from his parents owning their own business in
Londseborough years ago.
As for the success of the business, Brunkard
said that they realized recently they are a fairly
unique business.
"We were at a home and garden show in
Bayfield, and we had people from as far as
Kitchener interested in hiring us. You have to
go into the big cities to find services like ours,"
he said, adding that their business area, which
stretches from Grand Bend to Kincardine, and
Seaforth to Goderich, also has a high percent-
age of elderly individuals, who may have par-
ticular need for their service.
The interesting factor of the success of their
business, according to Good, is that they have
done relatively little advertising.
- "Most of the calls we get are from our van.
We have a lot of people call us and say they
saw us at Tim Hortons and want to know what
services we provide." Good explained.

them at 519-524-5530, or email them at win-
dowshines@gmail.com. Their website also
