While that membership criteria rep- resents one of the great oxymorons in life, Healthy Hearts has been helping people with faulty tickers for over 15 years and the non-profit organization held an open house Monday, April 27 at the Maitland Recreation Centre to celebrate the success of the program. With new equipment and a per- manent residence at the town's rec- reation facility, Healthy Hearts now boasts a regular membership of 170 active hearts and since its inception, more than 800 people have ben- efited from the medically -supervised program that gets people with heart disease active and healthy and on a regular program to good health. Regular supervised program are giving heart patients the confidence to build up their strength and pursue cardiovascular -stimulating exercises. Public involvement has helped the non-profit organization expand its equipment arsenal and provide more assistance where it's needed. "We would like to thank the com- munity for its ongoing support and it has meant that we could purchase new equipment for the program;' on site Registered Nurse and program director Eleanor Brewtser said.
