Clinton submission
wins local contest

With over 275 photographic
submissions representing geo-
graphic areas as remote as Na-
mibia, Africa, New Zealand and
as majestic as the Banff land-
scape, the Huron Camera Club
unveiled the winners in its third
annual Last Light Photo Contest
at a reception at the Goderich Li-
brary Saturday.
Lindsay Hay of Clinton was
the grand prize winner as judges
selected .her compelling photo-
graph of a dew -laden lillypad,
taken at a friend's cottage in
Haliburton in the summer, as the
contest's winning entry.
For Hay, the $250 top prize
from contest sponsor Goderich
Signal -Star, will be used to pur-
chase' new photography equip-
ment, especially a new camera.
"I had two cameras stolen last
year and I really wanted to win
this contest," she said after being
announced as the winner. "I love
photography and I was in South
Africa and took a lot of photo-
graphs. I am just home visiting
and will be heading back."
The photographs were judged
on a single theme of nature/land-
scape and a new category, fir
photo enthusiasts under 12 years -
of -age, was added. The winning
photograph in the youth catego-
ry was a submission by Megan
Pennington of Whitechurch.
Her photograph of an active
watercourse was snapped on
the property of a family friend
near Brancroft, Ontario. With
less than a year's experience in
taking photographs, Megan said
it's time to invest in some new
camera equipment and her $100
cheque from the Huron Tourism
Association will definitely help.
The other winners in the con-
test included Mark Noakes of
Namibia and formerly of Huron
County who took home the $150
cash prize from the Huron Tour-
ism Association as the second -
place winner. As runners-up, Ed
Cunningham, Angela Kaptein
and Robert Walsh were given
prize packages.
The photographs will be on
display in the Goderich Library
until Friday, May 15 and will be
available for silent auction bids,
with proceeds from the sale
donated to Community Living
Central Huron.
The photography contest and
sale was sponsored by the Huron
Camera Club in memory of one
of its founding members, Sarah
Mann, an avid photographer who
was killed in a single -car acci-
dent in July 2006. She worked as
a reporter -photographer for the
Goderich Signal -Star. Sarah 's
parents, Steve and Lynne Mann,
and her sister, Jessica, were on
hand for the presentations and
reception.
Prizes for the event were spon-
sored by the Huron Tourism As-
sociation and the Signal -Star.
