The Goderich Signal-Star, 2009-04-22, Page 31Goderich Signal -Star, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 - Page A31 Sailorettes lucky to have a coach like Cann The Signal -Star was looking for coaches in our commu- nity who raise the bar. Dave Cann has done exactly that. Dave has always come prepared to practices and games. He always encouraged us to do our best and showed us how to improve. Dave went above expectations of a coach and found ways to motivate us with his crazy antics and pep talks. Dave is a great coach and the Goderich Bantam Sailor- ettes were lucky to have such a fine coach for our team. Dave also had great help to lean on, Christine McWhinney and Steve Frayne. So to all of you, thank you for making this year a truly successful one! Emily Gordon, Goderich Bantam Sailorettes on the back to all of our hard-working coaches this week Making a difference in Goderich sports... Ray Lewis Field Hockey When it comes to coaching in Goderich, two individuals recently set themselves apart from the pack both for their teams and the sports they coach. Ray Lewis was nominated by the girls on the Goderich District Collegiate Institute field hockey team for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations' (OF - SAA) Leadership in Sport Award. It didn't take long for the other coaches to see the merit in the nomination and Lewis was honoured with the award this past November. His dedication to the sport, as well as to his athletes made all. the difference not only in his being awarded, but in cre- ating a legacy of excellence in the GDCI field hockey program as well as the On- tario Summer Games team. Marj Moore 5 -pin Bowling The late Marj Moore, who was the honouree of last week's invita- tional tournament at Little Bowl, left be- hind a legacy as the longest -serving vol- unteer in 5 -pin bowl- ing history. As a coach, she has accompanied her ath- letes to seven Cana- dian Championships, and as a volunteer, helped expand the Youth Bowling Coun- cil into this zone. She will be remem- bered not only for her commitment to the game, but to the play- ers and the adminis- trators of 5 -pin bowl- ing for her tremendous efforts.
