ter scoring an unusual three emp-

Manitoulin team. The level of ef-
fort put forth by every member of
the peewee team was spectacular

Numbers down
for minor soccer
2009 enrollment
Denny Scott

Despite an extra registration day, John
Cove, president of Goderich Minor Soccer,
says that numbers are still lower than they
should be.
There are 29 local teams, and two London
Youth League teams, and player numbers are
down from last year.
"We have just over 400, which is down
about 80 from last year's final numbers,"
Cove explained.
As scheduling had to be completed last
week, Cove sad there would be no chance
for other teams to join, which could be a big
hit for local soccer enthusiasts. The U18 girls
and U16 boys will not be represented in the_
league this year due to a lack of numbers.
Cove explained, in a message to The Sig-
nal -Star, that its probably due to an economy
catch, with .youths working extra hours to
help out and save for the future. They just
have less time.
The two new London Youth League
teams, which draw from the U15 and U13
age groups, may also be a reason that the
U16 boys team won't exist this year.
Goderich is normally part of the North
Huron Soccer League, which plays teams
