Gallery hosts Mitchell artist
Mitchell, Ontario is home to an
artist of many talents. Elizabeth Jay
considers portraits, landscapes, re-
verse glass paintings, painted floor
mats, colourful clowns, basketry
and chair caning to be just part of
her artistic endeavors. Some of
which we will experience when she
is the guest artist during the month
of May at the Goderich Co. -op Gal-
lery.
Elizabeth says "A love of draw-
ing and creating things carried me
through my growing years, mother-
hood, teaching and retirement and
continues to help me in my search
to find a style that captures some of
the beauty and spirit of life."
Currently working in oils, Eliza-
beth is tackling weather in her
paintings.
"I am trying to capture the mood
of clouds and the drama they can
produce in my art, while seeking
simplicity and boldness of stroke
and colour," she said.
Elizabeth Jay has conducted night
school courses in oil painting and
pottery for adults and children's art
classes as well.
An active participant in outdoor
art shows in Goderich, Stratford
and Bracebridge some viewers may
recognize Elizabeth's clown series.
These whimsical canvases are large
and embrace bold primary colours.

tured in the painting, Time Out is
there to remind us, Elizabeth says,
"when things go wrong it's im-
portant to reconnect and find the
calm to get up and get on our way
again."
In contrast to her clown paintings,
her self portraits entitled, Me on
the Bank of the Thames River and
Picking Red Currants display her
ability to bring weather into play.
While Elizabeth looks dressed for
a brisk fall walk along the Thames
riverbank, the later piece shows
Elizabeth bathed in summer light,
busy picking red currants. The lat-
ter self-portrait went on to win an
award this spring at Paint Ontario in
Grand Bend.
Elizabeth Jay has named this
collection in the Gallery, Me, My
Clown, etc., and will run for the
month of May.

Lemonade Days
Offering refreshment for a great cause Saturday were Kennedy Thom 9;
Josephine Noel 8, Kyle Thom 11 and Dominic Burbine 10. While lemonade is a
tasty treat .in itself, Noel had the idea to donate the proceeds half to cancer
research and half to the Me to We Foundation.
