Health unit says immunization is for all
The Huron County Health Unit
is reminding the public that "Im-
munization is for All Ages". It's
National Immunization Aware-
ness Week, running from April
25 — May 2.
Senior Public Health Nurse
Shirley Chalmers says immuni-
zation protects individuals and
communities by preventing the
spread of disease. "As more peo-
ple are immunized, the disease irk
risk for everyone is reduced.
When immunization coverage
rates drop significantly, disease
returns."
There have been updates to
the immunization schedule over
the past few years. Information
on immunization schedules and
recommended vaccines for all
age " groups is included in the
website.
Chalmers says, "It can become
their children. If your child at-
tends day care or school you will
need to provide a photocopy of
their 'immunization record to the
health unit to ensure they are up
to date.':
Chalmers says it doesn't end
with childhood though. "As
adults, we also need to ensure
we keep up to date. Adults do
have recommended immuniza-
confusing and hard to know if
you 'or your children are up to
date. It is important for parents
to keep• track of immunization
records, for themselves and
tions and depending on -your job,
health or travel you may need
extra ones as well."
The risk of exposure to vac-
cine -preventable infections re-
mains in our communities, for
all ages. Immunization programs
keep the risk of disease at bay.
The health unit has immuniza-
tion information on their web site
at www.huroncounty.ca/health.
