Goderich visit

Finding that sweet spot in life was the recurrent theme in
Michael `Pinball' Clemons address to a crowd of about 140
at the Columbus Centre in Goderich Friday.
The former CFL player and coach of the Toronto Argo-
nauts was the much -touted speaker at a dinner/fundraiser
held April 17 for the Huron Womens' Shelter.
"It was a wonderful evening," said Womens' Shelter exec-
utive director Michele Hansen. "He certainly delivered the
messaged we hoped he would... inspiring our community to
be the best it can be."
Clemons was as energetic as he was insightful, taking
an informal approach as he put down the microphone and
walked through the audience while speaking.
.Defining yourself, he said, is not something you should
base on what you have, but what you are and who you
serve.
Clemons said he was a husband and a father first and fore-
most, not "some guy running with a piece of leather."
To the men in the audience, Clemons issued a challenge
to be real men.
"What makes a stronger man," he said. "Is to put some-
one's interests above your own. The best among us are no
good by themselves." •
When Clemons finished speaking, he was given a stand-
ing ovation however, it seemed Pinball still had a trick or
two up his sleeve.
"At the end, he leaned over and said 'Are you okay if I go
to the mic," Hansen recalled.
"One more thing," said Clemons as he took the stage
again. "I think we should raise a little money for the Huron
Women's Shelter."
In an impromptu act of fundraising, Clemons auctioned
off two sky -boxes and two rounds of golf with recently
retired quarterback Damon Allen pro football's all-time
passing record holder.
The items raised $6,000 for the Womens' Shelter.
"Just like that," said Hansen. "That was quite delightful."
Earlier in the day, Clemons spoke at Goderich District
Collegiate Institute as well as St. Anne's in Clinton. •
