ELDERHORST
It is with great sorrow
and heavy hearts that
the family of Anne
Marie Elderhorst
(Facey) announce
her passing on
April 8, 2009 in
her 52nd year
after an incredible
three year battle
with cancer. Anne
was born in Aylmer
in 1958 and in 1959
was Free Press Baby of
the Year. She is survived b y
her loving husband Henry, cherished son and
daughter Andrew and Brianna. Anne was the
dear daughter of Rhea Craig and the late Ed
Facey and stepdaughter of Bill Craig, sister of
Mary Lynn Firby (Ken) and Robert Facey
(Deborah) and niece of Phyllis Callaghan. She
attended public and secondary school in
Aylmer after which she graduated from the
University of Western Ontario and Althouse
College. Her teaching career spanning 25
years began in Holmesville in Huron County
and later at Victoria Public School in Goderich
where she taught French and Physical
Education. It was during this time that she met
and married her best friend Henry Elderhorst
and it was in Goderich where they spent their
married life and raised their children. Anne
and Henry loved to. travel and spent many
beautiful vacations all over the continent. She
was a sports person and especially loved to
play golf which she did twice a week as late as
last summer. ,She will be greatly missed by her
many friends and co-workers and former
students. Funeral services were held April 13
from the McCallum & Palla Funeral Home in
Goderich. —16ar

82nd year. Madeline
was a member of S t .
Peter's Catholic Church, Goderich
and the St. Peter's Catholic Women's League.
Madeline was born on July 24, 1927 in
Goderich to Ben Smith (Schmidt) of Mildmay,
Ontario and Alice Weiler of Formosa, Ontario.
She attended school in Goderich and graduated
from London's St. Joseph's Hospital School of
Nursing in 1949. While working at St. Joseph's,
Madeline met her future husband Joseph
Mombourquette of Glace Bay, NS. They
married in 1952, the ' same year in which Joe
transferred from the RCAF Reserve to active
duty. Thus began an eventful life where
Madeline continued nursing and raised a
family in military communities across Canada,
including Trenton, Ont.; Moose Jaw, Sask.;
Gander, Nfld.; , Yorkton, Sask.; St. Hubert,
Que.; and Camp Borden, Ont. Upon Joe's
retirement in 1975, the family moved to
Goderich where they finally purchased their
own home. Madeline worked briefly at
Alexandra Marine and General Hospital before

taking a nursing position at Maitland Manor
Nursing Home until her retirement. She also
cared for Joe during his lengthy illness that
ended peacefully in 1984. Madeline greatly
cherished her independence and lived life to
the fullest in her home until March 29 when a
stroke made this impossible. She was moved
to palliative care on April 2. Madeline leaves
her brother Vincent and wife Dorothy of
Goderich; her son John and daughter-in-law
Fay of London; her daughter Mary Jane Shorn
and son-in-law Rob of London; and son Paul
and daughter-in-law Maureen of Sandy, Utah.
She also leaves her beloved grandchildren ,
Robbie Shorn, Josh and Jean Mombourquette
and Dr. Andrew Sparrow. The family received
friends at the McCallum & Palla Funeral
Home, Cambria Rd. at East St., Goderich on
Tuesday, April 7, 2009, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
C.W.L. Prayers were held at 4 p.m. and Parish
Prayers were held at 6:45 at the Funeral Home.
Rev. John Jasica celebrated the Funeral Mass
at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Goderich on
Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. Pallbearers
were Bill Wilson, Kevin Wade, Jim Shanahan,
Norm Leddy, Peter Dykstra and Steve Winters.
Interment St. Peter's
Cemetery. Donations to
the Heart and Stroke

GRIST, ESTHER (ETTIE)
Passed away at the St. Joseph's General
Hospital in Elliot Lake on Thursday, March
19,.2009 at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the
late Densil Grist. Loving mother of Peggy
(Phillip) of Hamilton, Ken (Deannie) of
Chilliwack, British Columbia and stepmother
of Barry (Barb) of Seaforth and Colleen (Dalt)
of Berwick, Nova Scotia. Dear grandmother of
Wilfred, Cory (Kathryn), Madelaine (Brian),
Lonnie, Barrett and great-grandmother of
Serena and Shawn. Also survived by seven
step -grandchildren, 12 step -great-grandchildren
and one step -great -great-grandchild. Ettie will
also be deeply missed by the Hauguth family
who thought of her as an honorary mother and
grandmother. Friends were received at the
Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation
Centre (36 Ontario Ave.) on Saturday, March
21 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. followed by a
memorial service at 7 p.m. from Gentle
Shepherd Church. Pastor Doug Price officiated.
The Grist family wish to take this time to
extend a sincere thank you to all of the hospital;,
staff for their kindness and consideration.
