And for everyone who, from the comfort of their car, has ever just pulled out of the Tim Horton's drive through and seen a neon streak go by, wondering what those runners are thinking, the question is posed: Why do it? • For Joe Jr. it's about the rush and the hard work. "Runner's high," he said. "It's a good mental challenge." He added it's also great to be not only contributing to his own health, but his fa- ther's as well. While Joe Jr. has a goal in mind for the marathon this year, he's not ready to print it. "Keep that one open for me," he laughed. For Joe Sr., running has a much more personal, if not spiritual role. Keeping fit, challenging himself and defying age - that's Beasley's rason for running. He said no matter where you are in life, it's never too late to improve and running does that both physically and mentally. "My thinking is, one can still have personal bests even as one grows older," he said. "I'm a fairly competitive person." "And you're still outrunning some of the younger guys," Paquatte chimed in. For him, it's all about the healthy lifestyle, body and mind. "That's where I do all my thinking," he said. "Sort all my problems out. You can sort the world's problems out over a run." His goal is to simply get bet- ter and faster, regardless of the clock. "Age is just a number," he said. Beasley, Paquette and Joe Sr. will be running in the 50-54 group. Joe Jr. will be running the 18-34. The Beantown-bound group will hit the ground running Monday.
