Belles ring out loud at Huron -Perth'
The Goderich Belle Ringette club came away with
the Huron -Perth Championship last Sunday in a 5-4
overtime win versus Stratford that sent our 16 and 17
year old players into a frenzy only 30 seconds into the
overtime.
The game was back -and -forth throughout with both
teams having and giving up the lead on more than one
occasion. Derrick and Briar shared the net -minding and
held us in there. Kelsey and Jodi had two goals with a
single from Abbey. Meredith, Katie, Jackie and Callie
provided strong and aggressive defence which tends to
show up in our penalty minutes as well, with the D
taking 16 of our 24 minutes in penalties. Jacy, Julia and
Hayley had assists in the game. Gritty efforts from Mea-
gan and Josie provided all the added offence needed to
prevail with our biggest win of the season.
As mentioned in previous articles; Stratford has been
our nemesis this season, taking wins in all six meetings
that included the regular season, the Stratford tourna-
ment and the round robin playoffs.
Our players were a very focused squad on this day.
We were so very close in three of our previous games
against the mostly second -year team from Stratford that
we didn't want to let this most important meeting slip
away without a real battle.
Penalty trouble in the first period was a concern as
on three occasions we had two or more players sitting
in the box of sins. That forced the forwards into defen-
sive roles and they proved to be a solid force. Goderich
ended the first period with a 2-1 lead.
Jodi scored the overtime goal with assists from Katie
and Jackie. Congratulations ladies and gents on a great
game and a very successful season as first year Belles.
We'll see you all on the firetruck in warmer weather.
Bench Staff; Mike, Dan, Matt, Candice and Deb
(sometimes Shelley and Heath-
er) really enjoy our time with
the players and each other and
hopefully we'll all be back to-
gether again next season. If any
other parents would be interest-
ed in taking on a role behind the
bench or on the ice at practices
please don't hesitate to come
forward at any time.
The Belle club would also
like to congratulate the Tweens
and the Novices who are Hu-
ron -Perth champions as well.

Sailorettes reach semis at Canad
At the Canadette girls hock-
ey tournament in Brampton
over the Easter weekend, the
Goderich Bantam. Sailorettes
ended their hockey season on
a high note as they advanced
to the semi-finals against
heavy odds.
After a disappointing 1,0
loss to Smith Falls on Friday,
the Sailorettes rallied to win a
convincing 5-2 victory over
the Etobicoke Dolphins later
that evening. Ali Frayne, Jor-
dan McWhinney and Jaden
Mitchell earned distinction
for their determined aggres-
sive playing.
On Saturday afternoon, the
Sailorettes cruised to a 6-1 tri-
umph over the Clearview Ice
Cats. Emily Gordon opened
the Goderich scoring in the
opening seconds of the game
with assists from Kate -Lynn
Skinner and Holly Ryan.
Minutes later Michelle Kelly
scored her first goal of the
game on a double pass from
Shayla Mathers and Ryan.
McWhinney earned an unas-
sisted goal less than a minute
later.
Taylor Pritchard and Ryan
assisted Kelly on her second
goal of the game. Jayme Aus-
tin scored the final pair of
Goderich goals. Taylor Hul-
ley and Gordon assisted Aus-
tin's goals respectively.
In the quarter finals, the
Sailorettes edged Toronto
Leaside in a surprise 1-0 up-
set. Brooke Guikema scored
the only goal of the game
giving the win to the Sail-
orettes. Excellent defensive
work from Aja Hogan -Cann,
Jacqueline Martin and Can-
dace Cunningham helped
netminder Jessica Yates earn
a shut out.
The Sailorettes lost a 2-1
decision in. the dying seconds
of regulation play to an ag-
gressive Lambeth team. Mi-
chelle Kelly got the Goderich
goal on a graceful maneuvre
around the Lambeth goalten-
der.
Excellent teamwork and
spirit allowed the Bantam
Sailorettes to advance as far
as they.did. The team would
like to thank coaches Dave
Cann and Steve Frayne and
trainers Beth Pritchard and
Christina McWhinney for a
great season.
