Boudreau, is a boat and concert
hall all in one, operating out of
Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. .
"It could be one of the biggest
cultural events in the town's
history," Grace said. "Some-
thing new and exciting."
The Point -Counterpoint II
bills itself as a floating art cen-
tre, complete with galleries and
lodgings for some of the mas-
ters students who perform in
ports across North America.
Booking dates for the float-
ing orchestra depends on their
sea -schedule, and this year, the
Point -Counterpoint II will be
around Goderich the weekend
of July 9-12, the same weekend
as the Kinsmen Summerfest and
cross -county motorcycle tour.
Clerk -administrator Larry
McCabe said Boudreau was
"remarkably easy to deal with,"
and presents a huge opportunity
for the town.

with Boudreau recently and
were impressed with the edu-
cational and community-based
nature of the concerts, which
come at a price tag of $30,000.
McCabe suggested the con-
cert - potentially held in the
south quay - would put any
profits into the harbour reserve
fund.
The Point -Counterpoint II is
a 195 -foot vessel that opens up
to reveal a live orchestra and
would make its way to Goder-
ich from Pittsburgh via Wind-
sor and Sault Ste. Marie.

dc's alsa April 30 filing deadline will arrive before you know it. So don't be
ole of the many Canadians who will. end up rushing to get their returns completed in the last •
couple of days of April. If you file late you could be assessed a penalty. (Note that the deadline
is June 15 ify 're self-employed.)'
i
Starting early and eying yourself ample tune to work carefully through the process does
more than ensure you won'tbe late. ft also keeps you from rushing so fast that you don't take
advantage of all available deductions and credits and you end up missing out on potential tax
savings.
In particular, make sure you document and gather your 2008 receipts for any medical, moving,
child care and child support expenses you had any charitable donations you made; the cost of
any tuition paid; and all professional fees you paid for legal services. Also keep in mind the tax
credit for public transit passes and the child tax credit.
Remember other key deductions as well, such as your Registered Retirement Savings Plan
(RRSP) contributions for 2008. In addition, there is an age amount tax credit you may be able
to claim if you are 65 or older. at the end of the year. And be sure you claim your provincial -
tax credits, where applicable. You should also ensure you take advantage of any losses on
investments you sold in 2008.
Plus, couples shouldn't miss out on potential tax savings allowed by combining certain tax
claims. For example, the dividend tax credit may be combined on one spouse's retum, which
in some cases can increase did benefits of these claims. And don't forget that pensioners may
allocate up to half of qualified pension income to a spouse for tax purposes.
Finally, remember that all of this just scratches the surface of what's involved to make sure
you minimize the income tax you pay. Although the subject gets a lot of attention in March and
April ea ch year, tax planning is actually a year-round process. It requires regular review with key
actions being taken before the end of each calendar year. And perhaps most importantly, you
might find that it's all handled best with the help of a tax professional such as an accountant.

The acquisition of a UV system at Goder-
ich's pollution control plant is all but complete
after two-thirds funding was approved for the
purchase through the Build Canada commu-
nities fund.
The previous Canada -Ontario Municipal
Rural Infrastructure Fund (COMRIF) ap-
plication submitted by the town was not ap-
proved.

The remaining third of the cost will be paid
through Goderich's pollution control fund.
The move comes in advance of federal
regulations banning the release of chlorinated
water into the lake.
Environmental services technologist, Jen-
nette Walker, said Goderich is well ahead of
the 2010 schedule.
"As of the end of this year, we won't be put-
ting any more chlorine into the lake," she said.
"We have to have the UV up and running by
the end of this year."
Finbuilt will supply the system and installa-
tion at a cost of $573,530.70 - well below the
anticipated $850,000.
Walker said the options available to council
were either dechlorination or ultra -violet. That
latter, she said, was the better route.
"There was a study done; what was the best
way for Goderich to not have to use chlorine?"
she said. `Basically it's to protect the ecology
of critters and plants."

Goderich Town Council has decided to
keep the care of Maitland cemetery under its
own folds after tenders for the job came back
higher than expected.
Currently, the town's cost estimate for the
coming year is $64,250 with $15,000 for the
hiring of two summer students.
The lowest tender was $85,000, above even
the combined amount.
