It has been a very exciting year for this team, and a great finish to their season. Midget Sailors WOAA champs. There were only three mighty midgets left standing on the ice when the final buzzer went off last Monday night at the Western Ontario Athletic Association championship game, but the Goderich Midget .Rep team were able to prevail over Walkerton with a 5=2 victory. Walkerton won the first of a three game series. Goderich had to win the second game March 29 to give them a chance at the championship game on Monday. Goaltender Lucas Denomme, stood tall between the pipes for game two and earned Goderich the win allowing teammate goalten- der Shawn Gethke to play in the championship game. Gethke triumphed but it was no easy task. There was a steady line of Goderich players heading to the penalty box, giving Walkerton numerous power play opportunities. A strong performance was turned in by the en- tire Midget team. Determination, a solid defence and the ability to score goals are what contrib- uted most to the win. Team chemistry on and off the ice and a good coaching staff made for a fun and successful year. Thanks to head coach, Gary Lynch and the rest of the co aching staff: Pete Bakker, Perry Bakker, James Gartshore, trainer; Mark Fay and manager Dean Kulich. Tweens take Huron -Perth The Goderich Tween Ringette team capped off an amazing season Sunday, winning the Huron Perth title with a con- vincing 6-3 win over Mitchell. It was a season that saw the girls win two tournaments, a bronze (as close to gold as a team can get) at Regionals and the Huron Perth title. The Tweens are an awesome team that overall went 30 - 6 - 4. Parents and coaches were very proud of the way the girls dis- played a competitive nature throughout the season, but what the parents and coaches were most proud of is the sportsmanship the girls showed on the ice towards their teammates, coaches, referees and opposi- tion. The girls deserved all the accolades they got this year. Team members include: Goalie - Taylor Spade; defence - Brittany Boyce, Candace Cunningham, Taylor Hulley and Keisha Stoddart; forwards - Jacqueline Bedard, Courtney Beattie, Lauren Dietrich, Kate Fisher, McKenna Hulley, Maren MacKen- zie, Amanda Menchenton and Rachel Peet; trainer - Gayle Fisher and coaches - Jim Beattie and John MacKenzie.
