Goderich residents no longer need
to be slave to their garbage calendars
when it comer to getting rid of yard
.waste.
A new drop-off for clippings,
hedge -trimmings and garden waste
has been set up at the Public Works
Yard at 361 Cambridge Street.
The town, together with Try Recy-
cling out of London, will operate the
depot, making sure the waste is not
only collected, but put to good use
afterward.
People with yard waste fitting the
necessary criteria can drop it off at the
works yard, where municipal work-
ers will pack it and Try Recycling
will collect it.
Residents only need pull up to a
large concrete bunker at the works
yard and unload. Once that is full,
town 'staff will empty the bunker into
bins to be picked up by Try Recy-
cling. In their first Saturday open,
15 people used the depot.
Larger limbs and branches more
than one inch in diameter are not ac-
cepted at the depot. Rather, they can
be disposed of through other busi-
nesses that have chipping equipment.
"There are other places in town
they can take limbs," said Public
Works manager Chip Wilson. "We're
not set up for if someone takes down
a tree."
Try Recycling deals with more
than 20 municipalities, finding new
uses for not only yard waste, but
demolition and construction waste,
wood, drywall and different types of
aggregate.
Rick Vandersluis of Try Recycling
said they look forward to working
with the town and encouraged people
to see where their waste is going at
www.tryrecycle.com.
Goderich's environmental services
technologist, Jennette Walker, said
the depot comes after much public
demand.
