Salvation Army store opens on Suncoast
signal -star staff
It's been two years in the works,
but as of last Thursday the Salva-
tion Army's new thrift store on
Suncoast Drive is officially opened
for business.
"It was a long time coming," said
Captain Tim Andrews. "Thanks to
the community for coming through
for us time and time again."
The new building not only houses
the thrift store, but also food bank
and family services, where people
can go for emergency food hampers
or accommodations or any of the
other services offered. At the rear of
the building is the drop-off area for
furniture, clothing and items for the
thrift store. Andrews said anyone
with food donations can drop them
off on the east side of the building.
Although the store just opened its
doors after a moving hiatus, commu-
nity support has been overwhelming.
Lineups on the opening day
stretched the length of the building at
one point. Andrews said between the
closing of the old store on The Square
and the opening of the new Suncoast
location, they were able to complete-
ly fill their larger retail space.
"During that three weeks, we were

able to fully stock the store with new
merchandise," said Andrews. "It all
came from local donations."
He added the donation drive re-
cently held by local radio station
104.9 The Beach was also "wildly
successful".
Hours of operation are Monday to
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

dred and fifty children are now identi-
fied digitally in case anything should
ever happen to them,. according to
Masonic spokesperson Greg Hazlitt.
"The event went very well, we did
150 children, which is very good for
the four hours we were there," he ex-
plained. "And it's important that the
community showed up."
The volunteers involved in the iden-
tification program take digital video,
digital audio, and finger prints to help
identify a child should they ever go
missing. The Masons also had den-
tist Dr. Michelle Szasz, to take a bite -
impression of older children, provid-
ing dental identification and, DNA, or
to cheek -swab younger children for
DNA.
If you missed the event, Hazlitt ex-
plained that they plan to hold another
one in the next year.
