Contracts for more than $5
million in upgrades and expan-
sions to two Goderich schools
were approved on Tuesday,
March 24 by trustees of the
Avon Maitland District School
Board.
The approvals were in keep-
ing with earlier decisions to
consolidate all of the town's
Kindergarten -to -Grade 6 stu-
dents at one facility, and relo-
cate all Grades 7 and 8 students
into Goderich District Colle-
giate Institute (GDCI).
Effective September, 2010,
Victoria Public School will
close. In preparation for accept-
ing all K-6 students at what's
now known as Robertson Me-
morial Public School (but
will become Goderich Public
School), the board determined
the facility requires a five -room
addition. Three
of these will

After being informed of the
results of a tendering process,
trustees approved the lowest
bid of $4,267,515, from Devlan
Construction.
In addition to the board -fund-

ed addition, a three-room sec-
tion is also expected to be in-
cluded in the project. This will
be funded entirely by the Coun-
ty.,r Huron, and will house pre-
school
of pre-
school aged children under the
Best Start program.
Meanwhile, work will also
be undertaken by the board at
GDCI. At the March 24 meet-
ing, trustees approved the low
bid of $888,534 following a
tendering process for upgrades
at GDCI. The successful bidder
was Norton Builders.
The GDCI renovation doesn't
include classroom space, since
it was determined that class-
room reorganization could
adequately accommodate the
Grades 7 and 8 students. But
the work will include upgrades
to administration and guidance
offices, creation of an elemen-
tary (Grades 7 and 8) adminis-
tration space, storage space, and
upgrades to emergency and exit
lighting, the fire alarm system
and the public address system.
