"I've been skating for three years as of 2009," Profit explained. "And I've grown my hair since then." The figure skater has taken to wearing a toque because of the difference he feels on the ice, but its not a bad thing, he says. "It got to the point where my hair was block- ing my face, which the judges don't like," he said. "I was told to put it in a ponytail, but I didn't want to." Three weeks ago Profit cut of 11 inches of his hair to donate to cancer, and he was sur- prised at the length. "[Guidelines said] there had to be eight inch- es of hair, and I didn't think it was that long, but they cut it, and then they measured it, I was surprised," he explained. Profit has been active in figure skating since he stopped playing hockey, and has achieved several accolades in the sport. Aside from a fust place win in a St.Thomas competition, and strong performances in other competitions, he also placed eighth at Pro- vincials, a feat which he says is thanks to his mother's dedication and his grandmother's in- spiration. "I wanted to do well [in those challenges], so we were up at the arena every day before school at 6:30 a.m.," profit explained. "I started skating though, when my grandmother pulled out my mother's figure skates and I tried them on." Profit's future plans include Skater Develop- ment programs, and a Spring Skating School. "Skating is a year-round sport, it doesn't have a season, so I do it all the time," he said.
