J' x .rr.ar- ,..w_ ' . r Page A24 - Goderich Signal -Star, Wednesday, March 18, 2009 Thunder rolls to a stop in 'C' finals The Goderich Thunder Basketball program took another leap forward March 7 by hosting an .invitational basketball tournament at Goderich District Collegiate Institute. The tour- nament consisted of three divisions with Thunder players participating in both the 'B' and 'C' pools. Students from Grades 5-8 took part in the tournament, with teams from Sarnia to St. Mary's taking to the GDCI court. The 'A' Final consisted of Grade 7/8 basketball programs which played at a high level all tournament. In the 'A' Final, the Sarnia Shamrocks and St. Clair Colts exchanged leads all game. It took a final free-throw by a Sham- rock to send the game into overtime. In the extra frame, the Shamrocks out- lasted the Colts 22-20. The 'A' conso- lation saw Wingham defeat Clinton 21-11. The Goderich Thunder (Grade 6/7) were in a very tough pool 'B' with St. Mary's, Mitchell, and Brookside P.S. Austin Gardiner, Sara Macdonald, and Robbie Franken battled hard all. tournament against older, bigger op- ponents. Against St. Mary's, Connor Cox, John Doherty, and Jarred Bakker provided excellent ball control while Harrison Lobb ran hard on defence. An incredible last - second three -pointer by St. Mary's left the game tied at 18-18. In the final, Ethan Milne and Jona- than Ridsdale did some good post work against a very good St. Clair team. James Tigert hit a couple of nice baskets to get the Thunder in the game, however, the Colts proved to be too strong an opponent as they took the 'C' final 14-7. Daer makes honour roll with 829 triple Honour Rollers Ralph Koopmans 305, Scott. Hoy 312, Nick Daer 342 and 829 triple, Joe Paola 316 and 762 triple. Youth Canada Bowlers The PeeWees did some great bowling this week by Scott Berry 102, Ben Moore 132, Damien Priebe 108 and Nathan Zoethout 107. The Bantams were warming up the lanes with Noah Smith 142, Sarah Glenn 138, Matthew King 119, Karina Verbruggen 121, Payten Lang 192 and Jordyn Sole 156. The Juniors enjoyed some good games by Jonathan Stu- paryk 180, Samantha Walls 166, Robbie Franken 237 and 589 triple and Andrew Shaw 234. The Seniors were making the pins fly by Daiton Lingard 236, Thomas Hamilton 238, Derek Saundercock 278 and 667 triple! Monday Ladies Monday night the Ladies were bowling big with Lisa MacDonald 195, Diane Leddy 186 and Marilyn Sallows 205. Twesday Seniors Thesday gang enjoyed their morning with great games from Marie Millian 203 and Marcel Richard 257.
