CRAWFORD
Peacefully at his home on Monday, March 2,
2009 with family by his side, Gordon Lloyd
Crawford of Goderich in his
81st year. Beloved
husband of Joan for
59 years. Cherished
father of Don and
his friend Pati,
Becky and her
husband Dave
Mclvor and
the late Bruce
(2002). Loving
grandfather of Greg
(Lisa), Jackie (Eric),
Graem (Deborah),
Kristine (Steve) and Candice
(Ryan). Proud great grandfather of Robert,
McKenzie, Alex, Paige and Madden. Brother
of Bill (Donna), Marg Scholendorf, Bob (Jean)
and Ken .(Judy) and brother -in- law of Norma
Crawford. Predeceased by sister Audrey
Mayer, brother Jerry, brothers- in-law Lloyd
Mayer and Del Scholendorf. Gordon "Sporty
Gord" was an active member of the Goderich
community. He was a successful coach of
minor hockey, as well as a referee, and served
on the executive committees. Gord was the
leader of the church youth group "Tyro". Gord
sponsored and managed Gord's Sports ball
team. Gord travelled extensively with his wife
Joan, during their 59 years of marriage. He
was an avid fisherman, where he learned to tell
big fish stories and lots of jokes. Gord enjoyed
the Circle City Cruisers, listening to the Celtic
Biu Highlanders -_and _meeting . with friends
and 'family, at the Goderich Legion. Gord
was employed at Baechler's Lumber Mill,
Mathieson's Welding, and Champion Road
Graders. He sailed on the Bricoldoc and owned
Gord's Sports and Cycle. After retirement he
ran the marina at the Goderich Harbour and
also served at the Court House. Sporty Gord's
jokes will be missed by many family and
friends. A celebration of Gord's life, to share
memories and stories, was held at the Royal
Canadian Legion, Branch 109 on Saturday,
March 7, 2009 from 2-5 p.m. Donations to
Victoria Street United Church or Goderich
Minor Hockey gratefully acknowledged.

Chapel ready for gargantuan bash
On Sunday March 8, at
Knox United Church the
message shared was on
"Carrying Our Cross." The
scripture reading was from
Mark 8:31-38, with
Lectionary readings from
Exodus 20:1-17 and John 2:13-22.
• The Official Board of Knox United
Church will be meeting on Tuesday, March
17 at 7:00 p.m. Bible Study will also be
resuming on Tuesday, March 17 at 7:00
p.m. The next Confirmation Class will be
held on Monday, March 9 at Knox United
from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mentors are to
attend the classes as well. Londesborough
United Church Family Movie Night will be
held on Friday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m. the
feature movie is "The March of the
Penguins." Nursery care will be provided.
At Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary
Church on March 8, Pastor David Wood's
message "A Societal Anomaly" was
shared.

Senior and Junior youth snow camp and
compassion weekend is taking place March
20 to 21. For more information contact
Rob Campbell at (519 526-1131. Youth
and parents are invited to come out for
some friendly competition every Monday
night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for soc-
cer and hockey.
The Auburn Community Care Project
would appreciate pajama bottoms for boys
and girls. Knitted toques and matching
mitts, and pants that zip into shorts. No
scarves, stuffed animals, or look-alike bar-
bie's, (Barbie's are okay). Also please no
Large sized jeans however jeans for young-
er children are okay. Thank you so much
for you support last year. Please drop off
items at the Auburn Post Office.

World Day of Prayer
Knox .Presbyterian Church hosted World Day of Prayer
2009 on March 6 in an effort to pray with the women of
Papua New Guinea, learn of the country's cultures as well
as growing concerns of domestic violence and disease.
Above, Marilyn Sallows and Yvonne Chase link arms while
singing hymns. At right, Krista Andrews leads the congre-
gation through a tale of the saving actions of women in
war-torn areas of Papua New Guinea.
