Bantams second in home ice tourney
The Goderich Bantam Sailorettes walked away silver -
medalists at the WOAA Bantam Women's Hockey tour-
nament held in Goderich this past weekend.
A 3-0 loss in the tournament finals gave the gold medals
and trophy to Walkerton, but excellent team spirit demon-
strated by the Sailorettes throughout the tournament al-
lowed them to advance to Sunday's fated match.
On Thursday, March 5. at the MRC the girls opened
the tournament victorious against Kincardine. Aggressive
defensive work from Jacqueline Martin and Kate -Lynn
Skinner helped goaltender Jessica Yates keep Kincardine
scoreless in regulation play.
It took two periods of overtime and nine shooters before
Holly Ryan scored the game -winning goal. Ali Frayne
scored the other Goderich goal to lift the Sailorettes to a
2-1 win.
On Saturday afternoon at Memorial Arena, the Sailor.
ettes handily beat Keady 4-0. The Sailorettes dominated
the play for the entre game. Michelle Kelly opened the
Goderich scoring in the second period with an assist from
Frayne. Seconds later, Jordan McWhinney lifted one into
the net with excellent teamwork from Shayla Mathers and
Jaden Mitchell.
In the third period, Aja Hogan -Cann continued the
Goderich scoring streak with a goal assisted by McWhin-
ney and Ryan. Frayne rounded out the Goderich scoring
with assists from Brooke Guikema and Kelsa Curran.
Yates earned a well-deserved shutout.
The Sunday semi-finals were a real nail -biter as God-
erich edged Saugeen Shores 3-2 in the last seconds of
the final period of sudden death overtime. Emily Gordon
scored the first and last game -winning goals. The other
Goderich goal was scored by Frayne with assists from
Taylor Pritchard and Guikema. Holly Ryan assisted Gor-
don's game -ending goal. '

Leading the team in points was
Andre Lapaine with 25, and Brad
Regier with 20. The team played
outstanding basketball and more
than earned the bronze medals they
brought home.
They were matched against St.
Joseph's SS out of St. Thomas in the
first game, a team they had never
played against. They opened the
game strong leading at half 28 to
19, outplaying St. Joseph's and pro-
