Young Canada Week Participants:
Peewee AE
The Goderich PeeWee AE squad has
had a rough season, according to coach
John Graham, but they're starting to
play really well together.
The team will be starting their run
in Young Canada Week with a game
against South Huron Friday, March 13
at 8:50 p.m. at the'Maitland Recreation
Centre. Goderich has not faced off
against South Huron in their season.
Graham highlighted several players
who have helped Goderich obtain some
of the wins that they've gotten.
First is their only goaltender Aiden
Graham, who has played every single
game between the pipes with no back-
vps.

Graham also mentioned two affiliates
from the PeeWee Sailorettes, Hailey
Bakker and Samantha Hodges.
"They come over from the Sailorettes
and help us out," Graham explained.
"They're considered part of our team,
but they are Sailorettes first if there is
ever a conflict. But it's worked out well
so far..They've done a great job for me
and the team."
Graham's short bench of only 11 full-
time players, four affiliated players,
and the two Sailorettes includes four
strong defencemen who help out their
goaltender, according to Graham.
Three strong forward lines are re-
sponsible for most of the scoring op-
portunities and wins the team has.
The PeeWee AE squad plays against
teams like Saugeen Shores, Listowel,
and Kincardine, and while Graham ad-
mits the team is occasionally outplayed,
they are never outclassed.
"It's been a tough season, but we've
learned to grow as a team. We'll contin-
ue to improve and have fun throughout
the year," he said.
If the AE team wins their Friday night
game, they will play next on March 17
at 11:20 a.m. If their first game ends
in a loss, they will play on March 17 at
12:30 p.m. Both matches will be played
at the Maitland Rec Centre.

The Goderich Pirates were
able to prevent a premature end
to their post -season on Sunday
night with a big 11-8 win over
the Lucan-Ilderton Jets.
The win was due to hard work
by the entire team, but centre
Dave Meriam and winger Matt
MacPhee outpaced them all,
each getting a hat -trick and four
assists.
Rounding out the top scor-
ing line was Shawn Burton with
one goal and five assists.
The addition of MacPhee to
Meriam and Burton's line ended
up working wonders, according
to Meriam.
"[Burton] and I have played
all year together," he explained.
"But [MacPhee] has moved in
for the playoffs, just in the last
couple games. I hope we'll be
kept together."
The Pirates entered the week-
end a game down in the best -of -
seven series with three matches
to play over as many days. But,
the boys were optimistic, com-
ing off a close, over -time game
last week.

playoff win, was played at the

Game two, played at the MRC

were scored by Ian Gould and

on net - a near 90 per cent save
average.
