HealthKick Huron and the Huron -Perth Healthcare Providers' Group are pairing up to celebrate Huron and Perth nurses with a healthcare inspiration awards night on March 31 in Seaforth. "We want to get the word out to get as many nominations as possible. We have a lot of great nurses and a lot of great things going on because of the way nurses make a difference," says Cathie Schalk, of the Huron -Perth Healthcare Providers' Group. Schalk says the healthcare providers' group was looking for another way to pro- mote recruitment and retention of nurses and decided that more appreciation has to be expressed for the RNs, RPNs, PSWs and healthcare aides working in the area. "We want to boost morale and make the general public aware there's a huge short- age of nurses but that it's a very valued profession to be in," she says. Laura Overholt, manager of HealthKick Huron, says the idea was one her organiza- tion felt was worthy of funding. "There is likely a nurse in every com- munity that someone wants to honour. We're really supportive of the idea," says Overholt. As part of the nomination process, which is open to everyone in Huron and Perth Counties, Schalk is hoping to learn the stories of local nurses and how they've helped in hospitals, nursing homes and community care.
