Plenty of options for restless
children this March Break
Dave Sykes
signal -star publisher
If you're looking for activities
to keep the children occupied
and involved over the March
break period, look no further than
the Maitland Recreation Centre.
The YMCA of Goderich-Huron
will be a centre of activity over
the March break as . the 60th ren-
dition - of the Goderich Lions
Club's Young Canada Week
Peewee Hockey Tournament
unfolds over 10 days with action
in several divisions taking place
throughout.
While hockey will be the focal
point at the recreation centre dur-
ing the week, there are a number
of camps, programs and activi-
ties available to children of all
ages.
Adventure camps will be held
March 16-20 for children from
six to 13 years -of -age from 8:30
a.m. to 4:30- p.m. every day and
will involve children in sports,
games, arts and crafts, drama and
swimming. Camp staff will pro-
vide a full week of adventures
'for the children, but youngsters
can attend on a daily basis as
well. •
Participants are reminded to
bring a nut -free lunch and snacks
each day, a swimsuit, towel and
running shoes.
Facility supervisor, Anne Marie
Thomson, said that the March
programs are popular with fami-
lies and recommends that regis-
tration be filed by Friday, Mar. 6
for the program.
"It's a booming week. It's very
busy and there is a lot of activi-
ty," she said. "The camp is popu-
lar and we recommend people
register early."
During the week, there is also a
special activity pass rate of $3
per child/teen and $12 for family
that entitles the purchaser to
enjoy the pool, waterslide, gym-
nasium, track and fitness classes.
The main pool and the leisure
pool will be open daily from 1
-4:30 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m.
The waterslide will be open from
1- 3 p.m. daily. The parent and tot
swim is scheduled for 10 a.m. to
noon every day. Children under
the age of 8 years- must be accom-
panied by an adult (14 years -of -
age) in the water, and life jackets
are available for children.
Financial assistance is available
through the YMCA so that local
youth and families may participate
in activities and use the facility.
For information, or to register for
the camp, call 519-524-2125.
