Plenty of options for restless children this March Break Dave Sykes signal -star publisher If you're looking for activities to keep the children occupied and involved over the March break period, look no further than the Maitland Recreation Centre. The YMCA of Goderich-Huron will be a centre of activity over the March break as . the 60th ren- dition - of the Goderich Lions Club's Young Canada Week Peewee Hockey Tournament unfolds over 10 days with action in several divisions taking place throughout. While hockey will be the focal point at the recreation centre dur- ing the week, there are a number of camps, programs and activi- ties available to children of all ages. Adventure camps will be held March 16-20 for children from six to 13 years -of -age from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30- p.m. every day and will involve children in sports, games, arts and crafts, drama and swimming. Camp staff will pro- vide a full week of adventures 'for the children, but youngsters can attend on a daily basis as well. • Participants are reminded to bring a nut -free lunch and snacks each day, a swimsuit, towel and running shoes. Facility supervisor, Anne Marie Thomson, said that the March programs are popular with fami- lies and recommends that regis- tration be filed by Friday, Mar. 6 for the program. "It's a booming week. It's very busy and there is a lot of activi- ty," she said. "The camp is popu- lar and we recommend people register early." During the week, there is also a special activity pass rate of $3 per child/teen and $12 for family that entitles the purchaser to enjoy the pool, waterslide, gym- nasium, track and fitness classes. The main pool and the leisure pool will be open daily from 1 -4:30 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. The waterslide will be open from 1- 3 p.m. daily. The parent and tot swim is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon every day. Children under the age of 8 years- must be accom- panied by an adult (14 years -of - age) in the water, and life jackets are available for children. Financial assistance is available through the YMCA so that local youth and families may participate in activities and use the facility.
