It's pretty unique," he said. "You don't have to have channel 12 to. place your bid. We have had people who call in on their cell phones while in traffic in Lon- don to bid on items because they know our timeframes are exact." This year's lot is packed with big-ticket items that Good ex- pects will .keep the bids rolling in. So far, the total value of auc- tion items is estimated at more than $75,000, and includes al- ways -popular sports memorabil- ia, mattress sets and a complete home -theatre system. Along with that, local collectibles, like vin- tage Champion and Volvo grader artwork are expected to generate considerable interest. Something else that generates local interest is the locals them- selves, Good added. Each year the auction commit- tee welcomes the volunteer ser- vices of local businesses and pro- fessionals who want to represent their business or service with • stellar auctioneering. "We always have guest auc- tioneers to help t s • out," Good said. "With two. for every set of 15 minutes for five hours straight, we'll need 20 auctioneers on Fri- day night alone." With roughly 150 auctioneer spots to fill, Good said that the Kinsmen are always eager to hear from interested parties within the communities, Along with busi- ness reps, past years have fea- • tured professionals like fireman, police officers, and politicians who have stepped up to help the cause. They also encourage volun- teer power to man this year's 12 phone lines, a duty that usually falls on the supporting shoulders of Kinsmen and Kinette -family and friends. Good said that anyone interest- ed in volunteering shouldn't hesi- tate to contact any member of the Goderich and Clinton clubs. It's been a pretty busy month so far.for the auction committee, who have worked nearly round- the-clock to ensure that the 2009 Photo by Dominique Milburn Kinette member Allyson Austin spent a moment on Saturday warm- ing up the camera in anticipation the the annual Kinsmen TV Auction. Every dollar raised during the auction goes back to the commu- nity, Good added, making it one of the most effective and exiting ways to lend support. Each year, the Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs make good on fi- nancial commitments to local initiatives, which have included the CT Scanner for Huron Coun- ty campaign, m;nor , sports, and individuals, aloi.g with funding toward the YMCA of Goderich- Huron.
