"I would like to mention how great all of the Deck - hand players and their wives worked throughout the entire weekend to make this years' 30th tournament a big success," said tournament chair Dan Ridsdale in an email to the Signal -Star From Friday night to Sunday morning, 16 teams played a collective 28 games of hockey, taking time to catch up with each other in the meantime. • The closest game for a local team was Lakeport's Tiger Dunlop division final with the Owen Sound Snipers. The Snipers, a new addition to this year's lineup, rallied from a 2-0 deficit to a 5-4 overtime win. Lakeport goalie Teny Bean did a formi- dable job, blocking Owen Sound's penalty shot attempt, however the Snipers eventu- ally hit their target. Talbot Realty was also a close contender for the final. In the Huron division final, the Clinton Fowl -Ups wiped the smile off the Lon- don Optimists 6-1. Clinton played well all weekend winning all four of their games. Tournament mainstays the Zurich Has - Beans won the John Phillips Memorial di- vision 6-1 over the Port Albert River Rats. The victory was sweetened by an earlier 6-3 loss to the River Rats in round-robin play. Rounding out the Maitland division was another Clinton team, the Fluffs, taking on the Corunna Old Sharks. An overtime penalty shot decided the game in favour of the Old Sharks, 5-4. The Saturday evening dance was a huge success, according to Ridsdale, as the Full Nelsons rocked a crowded dance floor upstairs at Memorial Arena. As Sunday rolled around and the action on the ice re- turned, he said there was still much talk from many of the teams about how great the band was. Proceeds from the tournament go back into the community in a number of ways, he said, including the CT scanner, Terry Fox Run, Young Canada Week and minor sports. • Get the knowledge y+ need to be comped . in your job search.
