The Petrolia Squires downed Goderich in four straight, however the first place team had trouble holding onto the lead in almost all of their games. In game one, Goderich lost by a single point, with the final buzzer showing Petro- lia etrolia up 4-3. Their second match pushed Petrolia even further, having Goderich take it to over -time with a man advantage. Unfortunately, they couldn't capitalize on the situation and' lost the match 4-3. In a high -scoring third contest, Goderich again lost, with the final tally being Petrolia 7, Goderich 5. . In their final game, held on Sunday, Febru- ary 15, Goderich again kept the competition close, but was unable to turn the game into a win. With heavy hitting, and a lot of scoring chances, Goderich almost had Petrolia, but the Squires' Justin Day stood on his head as net -minder for the match, stopping Goder- ich at every turn, and holding against the Pi- rates' pulled -goalie, six -on -five fi nal press. The Pirates now wait to see w he ► they play against in their next series. They will , play the highest -seeded team to lose their first round series. Meanwhile, the Junior 'C' Sailors were downed by the Hanover Barons three straight in their opening round of playoffs, and are looking to rebuild after a tough sea- .- son. Following the release of coach Larry Lane, the Sailors used their last- games to bring up a handful of players from Goder- ich's Midget Reps after their season ended with last week's loss to Listowel. The Sailors executive want to thank the team, staff and fans for another year of Ju- nior 'C' hockey in Goderich.
