"We still need players from Walkerton, Listowel, Wing - ham and Brussels," said Goderich Lion and tournament publicity chair Alvin McGee. "Everything else is coming together for our grand opening March 13." The plan is to have representatives from the original 12 teams on the ice for the 60th anniversary of the "biggest little hockey tournament in the world." Started in, 1950 by Nip Whetstone, the tournament has seen thousands of players move through the ranks over the, past 60 years. McGee said players from that first tournament would be in the age range of 69-73 years old. However, he added that is a loose estimation. "That first tournament wasn't sanctioned," he said. "They just put everyone together they could•get skates for." The total number of teams for this year's tournament was unknown as of press time, as playoffs in many parts of the province mean delays for some teams. Meanwhile, he 'said all past YCW participants are wel- come to come out to this year's tourney and share their sto- ries and pictures of years past. The puck drops Friday, March 13 at the Maitland Rec- reation Centre. Oldtimers lace up for 30th anniversary From page 23 The dance starts.at nine upstairs at the Memorial Arena. Between the hockey and the dance, he said a lot of people have a lot of catching up to do. "We're expecting a full crowd," Corriveau !aid. "A lot of acquain- tances renewed and a lot of stories to tell. "Some of them get bigger every year. While the tournament encom- passes everything from shinny to competitive divisions, Corriveau said it's not always easy to fill the more competitive slots. "It's always hard to fill the 'A' division," he said. This year will see two new teams joining the tournament line- up - the Owen Sound in the 'A' di- vision and the Muskoka Transport Spare Tires in the Maitland 'B' Division. The team of about 20 Old Deck - hands will handle the work at the OF.
