It's been 30 years and the Goderich Old
Deckhands' tournament shows no signs
of slowing down.
"We've got a full slate of 16 teams,"
said Deckhand Ron Coniveau. u. "I think
we're in good shape."
The tournament will have four divi-
sions of four teams each: Tiger Dunlop,
Maitland, John Phillips Memorial and
Huron.
Five Goderich and area teams are part
of this year's lineup, with teams from
Clinton, Zurich, Michigan, Guelph, Lon-
don and beyond filling out the roster.
Repr .. 'fling Goderich in the Tiger
Dunlop ,' Division are the Lakeport
Hawks and Goderich Talbot Realty.
In the John Phillips Memorial Division
are Gocerich ABC Investments and from
a little further'down the highway, the Port
Albert River Rats.
Finally, in the Huron Division, the God-
erich Weedman Bushwackers will be en-
joying their second year on the ice.
The Bushwackers will be opening the
tournament Friday with a 6:30 p.m. game
against the Clinton Fowl -Ups, followed
by the River Rats at 7:30 p.m. against
lonig-time tournament supporters, the Zu-
rich Has -Beans:
ABC Investments will also be in skates
opening night, taking on the Port Stanley
Cardiacs at 9:30 p.m.
All of Friday's games are at the Memo- .
rial Arena, however there will be a hand-
ful of games played at the Maitland Satur-
day and Sunday mornings. -
While the times may have changed over
the years, Corriveau said there are a num-.
ber of teams that have been patrons of the
tournament almost every step of the way.
"Some teams are here year after year,"
he said. "Thirty years is a long time. We
feel pretty good about that."
Port Stanley has fielded a team every
single year, and groups like the Has-Beens
and Fowl -Ups are not far off.
As for the Old Deckhands, Corriveau,,
noted Bill Martin has been on the team
for 30 years, as has Buck Million - who is
also offering his services to Port Albert on
the ice this time around.
Hand -in -hockey -gloved -hand with the
tournament is the Old Deckhands dance,
and Corriveau said this year, the Full Nel-
sons will be providing the entertainment.
