It often comes up when we are laughing at some little habit or quirk of ours that has reared its ugly head - some little peccadillo that we gen- erally try to keep under wraps. Our friends know these little truths about us, but we tend to avoid sharing our "weird" side with the rest of the world. For everyone else, we work hard at looking "normal". We try to maintain a certain "white - picket -fence" perfection to anyone passing by. Which parts of us we share tends to depend on , who we're talking to and what they might think of us. And there are times when this is a good thing. But other times I wonder whether it is really worth the effort. One of my little "se- crets" is a complete and utter addiction to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Back when it was still on TV, my husband immemmi. 11111111111111111111111111111 1111111111111111111111111111111 (k4i) OH ASOLUT1ON- 1 11111111111111111111111111111111111 MIIIIIM1111111111111111111111.1 11111111111111111111111111111111111111 - 000yPAY C4CASHSH A GETt1P 'f () INCENTIVES PURCHASE FINANCING A."M to FOR 36 MONTHS ONAPPROVED 4 \ MADE IN CANADA CIVIC • 1.81140hp 16 -Valve SOHC 1VTEC• Engine • 6 Airbag System • Anti•lodk Braking System LEASE FROM / APR x178 nwo, ■ PER MONTH FOR 48 MONTHS WITH 11.665 DOWN ON APPROVED CREDIT $16,990 MSRPt FOR CIVIC DX SEDAN Civic EX•L Sedan model FAI 509INX LEASE FROM / APR PER MONTH FOR 48 MONTHS WITH 690 DOWN ON AP OVED CREDIT $27,790 MSRP FOR CRV LX 2WD PER MOM POR 48 MONTHS VIM DOWN ONAPPROV OCREDiT $ 25,090 MSRP FOR ACCORD LX CR -V • 2.41166hp 16-Vaive DOHC I'VTEC• Engine • Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA') with Traction Control • 6 Airbag System • Anti-lock Braking System ACCORD • 2.41177hp 16 -Valve DOHC i VTEC' Engine • 6 Airbag System • Ahti-lock Braking System HONDA - •1.111L COMPANY YOU GAN RELY ON TO DELIVER THE MOST FUJE:l. Buffy's creator, Joss Whedon, had a certain kind of twist that suited us just perfectly - bril- liant writing, quirky colloquialisms, action, romance, and crazy plot twists. 1 mean, who couldn't love someone who would actually name his vampire slayer Buffy? That was just our kind of twisted! Then he created a spin-off called Angel that: came on right after Buffy! Wow! Tues- day night became like a date night for us. We didn't watch much TV but absolutely nothing could keep us from our Tuesday night Buffy vigil!! Now that our kids are old enough to watch it (we own the DVD sets of all seven seasons of Buffy and the five seasons of Angel) Buffy nights have successfully become a family tra- dition! Anyway, back in the days of the vigil, I found myself staying overnight at my cousin's house in Collingwood. It was nice. I really en- joy my cousins and we didn't get to visit very often. The problem was that it was on a Tues- day night! This was Buffy night! And it was at a pivotal part of the season. A billion plot lines were hanging in mid-air and anything could happen! I couldn't miss it! I just couldn't! E N - But wuldi Quit to my cousin that I was a Buffy -freak? My cousin and his wife were well-educated professionals. They both played in a sym- phony orchestra. How was I going to admit to them my twisted little addiction? Well, that night, we had a lovely supper. And as the evening progressed, my eyes became trained on the clock in the kitchen. I watched as the minute hand inched towards the magic hour of eight o'clock. My mind was frantic with whether or not I should mention Buffy. Was it rude to want to watch TV when I was visiting someone that I only saw once a year? That would be pretty bad, wouldn't it? But it's Buffy! But it's rude. But it's Buffy. But it's rude... As ridiculous : as my inner argument was, my addiction was slowly winning over all of . my politeness training. The inner struggle soon became -- "How will I bring it up?" As I wrestled with finding just the right words, my cousin's wife looked at me with this really frustrated look on her face and says: "Look Kati ina. 1 realize that you are here S Lim = • visiting and I don't want to be rude. But to - 0 ' 11 night is Buffy night! We watch it every week. KR! We just can't miss it. Would you mind if we 2 E y s . watched some TV tonight?" 1 z I practically exploded! EE ; i "WHAT???! ! ! You guys are Buffy fans too? 2 + 14'1' That is SOO awesome!" - We ended upspending a glorious night L.
