After two very well attended public meetings
on the subject of PortAlbert's 175th birthday in
2011 the decision was made to go ahead with
a celebration July 29-31, 2011. The "Rev'n in
11" committee consists of: Tom Dickson and
Mark Ryan - Co-chairmen; Sue Orr - Sec-
retary; Keith Doherty - Treasurer, Rhonda
Thomson - Entertainment; Ken Logtenberg
- Fund Raising; Sara Bender - Advertising;
Stu Sharp - Parade; Diane Maize - Food; Ed
Chilton - Grounds and Parking; Patti Maize
- Souvenirs/Beautification; Colleen Nagle -
Artist; Liz Brown - Hospitality; Nancy Cor-
kum - Historical Book.
The ideas and plans that have already come
together are amazing and pretty well guarantee
the "Rev'n in 11" celebrations will be as mem-
orable as our "Kicks in '86" celebration.
Tickets for the March 28th kick-off dance
are nearly sold out with the entertainment pro-
vided by The Full Nelsons as well as Ronnie
and The Law.
Due to the interest in the Port Albert - 150
Years history book the decision was made
to publish a new one. All 500 copies of the
original book were soon sold and we have
had many people show an interest in obtain-
ing one. The new book will be comprised of an
updated history of Port Albert with many old
call Gwen
and new photos. We encour-
age our Port Albert families to
send in their memories of days
gone by, family portraits, old
and new pictures of the Port
and the wonderful stories that
go along with them, to Nancy Corkum, either
by email to portalberthistory@hotmail.com or
call 529-3139. Photos sent via email should
be scanned at 300 dpi resolution, however, the
original photo would be best.
Plans are being made to redecorate the
church basement. The "Little Church on the
Hill" has quite a history of it's own and will
be a focal point for meetings' and hopefully
some fund raising events. Church Services are
held every Sunday morning at 9:30 and ev-
eryone is welcome to attend. The rector, Rev.
Allan Livingstone, has brought new life to the
church and has encouraged the idea of making
the church a community centre for worship as
well as a meeting place. He was instrumental
in arranging to have the Toy Bus and Play-
group government-sponsored programs in
the church basement every second Thursday
morning. The next program is scheduled for
Thursday, Feb. 12, 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Bring
your youngsters for playtime, crafts, songs
and stories. The bus has toys for children up to
about six years old which can be borrowed on
a bi-weekly basis.
We would like to welcome all newcomers
to Port Albert and hope we will have an op-
portunity to meet everyone in the near future.
Especially want to welcome Hudson Ireland,
son of Roberta and Rob Ireland. Nice to see
Port Albert come in first!
