an auto while the latter was in mo-
tion, on Wednesday evening of last
week at the north -end corner, Mr.
Cliff Davis slipped and fell striking
his head on th.e pa-vement. He was
rendered unconscious for nbout twen-
ty minutes. After coming arouad he
was little the worse for his fall.
BOWLING TOURNEY
Several visitors from D -ash
were present at the weekly bowling
tourney- on the local greens on Friday
evening last and mixed with the Ex-
eter bowlers. The winners were Geo.
Snell, Rivers, Kleinstiver and -Creech
with three wins and a gbod plus. The
second prize went to Wethey, Pryde,
Cochrane, and Fassold with two wins
and a small plus.
ALMOST A FIRE
The firemen had a run to the home
Of Mrs, S. Skinner, Friday evening
about 7.30 but their services were
not. needed as the fire was under con-
trol when they arrived. Mrs. Skin-
ner had lit the coal -oil stove in the
back kitchen and on her return a few
minutes later it was ablaze. With
the assistance of :neighbors the fire
. Jos. Senior, Clerk. was soon gotten undercontrol. When
the fiaemeg ,arrived the house was fil-
led with smoke.

Mr. Hy' Smith, of the Lake Road
met with an unfortunate accident on
Wednesday of last week. He was
snaking repairs to some machinery
when a piece of steel struck him in
the right eye, . -
UNDERWENT OPERATION
Miss Alnut, Johns, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. ,Joshua Johns, of Elimville,
underwent 1 serious operation in
London hospital on Friday of last
week. The operation was in con-
nection with some bones of the head.
Her condition was considered critical
at 'the time but we,einderstand that
at present she is making satisfactory
progress.

Milverton boulevard, Toronto, when
her cousin, Miss Elia Skinner, for-
merly of London, became the bride
of William F. Heideman, of Toronto,
son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Heideman, of
town. Rev Mr. McTaggart officiated.
The bride wore a gown of blue con -
ton crepe trimmed with beads, also a
corsage bouquet of Ophelia roses and
lily of the valley. Miss Betty Heide-
man, in pink silk and carrying a bas-
ket of baby roses and lily of the val-
ley, made a pretty flower girl. After
the ceremony a wedding lunc,heon
was partaken of by a -number of
friends aadrelatives, after which
the happy couple left on an extended
motor trip. The bride traveled in a
suit of brown gabardine, with hat to
Match; and a grey squirrel scarf, the
gift of the groom, . On their return
they will reside in their new home

Saintsbury Anglican church was
gaily decorated for ethe marriage of
Miss Vera A. daughter of Mr, and
Mrs. Fred Davis, Bieldulph, to Mr.
Mervin H. Elston, of Centralia, which
took place on Wednesday, June 22.
The bride entered the chair& with
her father and took her place beneath'
an arch of syringa and roses .,from
which was. suspended a large white
bell. She looked-' most- charming; in
a wedding gown of ivory satin „ and I
embroidered tulle veil caught up
with orange blossoms. She wore a
corsage bouquet of orchids and valley
lillies and carried an ivory- prayer
book. The wedding march was play-
ed by Mrs. Ha,wkshaw, of Lucan.
The ceremony was perf6rmed by Rev.
Chas. 0. Pherril. During the sign-
ing of the register, Miss Marion Neil
sang very sweetly "The garden of my
Heart." The ushers were Heber
Davis and Fred Elston. Following
the ceremony a reception was held at
the home of the bride's parents. The
groom's gift to the bride was a gold
bar pin set with pearls; to the pianist
and soloist gold bar pins set with
onyx and diamonds. Mr. and Mrs.
Elston left by motor for Guelph and
Midland. The bride thavelled in a
a navy tricofine suit with chic black
hat. Their many friends will join
with The Times in extending congrat-
ulations,

On ea,turclay morning last Mrs,
Stephen Hicks passed away .at the
home of her Son-in-law, Mr. John
Leary, of Staffa. Mrs. Hicks had
bean ailing only a few days, her
death being due to pneumonia. She
was aged 80 years and 5 'months' and
had been remarkably bright and
active for one of her years. Posses-
sed of a happy and gentle disposition
she was beloved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Hicks' maiden name was Susan
Tregear, She was born in Trevad-
lock, Cornwall, Eng., where she grew
to womanhood and was married to
Mr. Hicks who predeceased her Feb.
10th, 1907. In 1880 with their fam-
ily of five children they carne to Can-
ada and a year leder moved tei a farm
at Eden where they remained for 11
years. For ten years they farmed. in
Hibbert and in 1903 they retired and
moved to Exeter. Since the death
of Mr. Hicks, Mrs. Hicks has made
