with weekend bouts in Brantford

"We're officially .a club now," said Kirk Killam of
the newly -resurrected Lakeview Boxing Club. "That's
the second-best news. The best news is I'm fighting
again."
After spending a year outside the ring due to knee
problems, Killam is on the road to recovery and look-
ing forward to his Feb. 7 fight against 8 and 1 Darren
Fletcher in Brantford.
"I've got my robotic leg I have to wear when I fight,"
he joked, holding up the heavy-duty knee brace that will
become part of his boxing attire.
Putting on .a few pounds in his off -time, Killam will
be fighting in the 168-170 weight class - a noticeable
difference from when he last fought at 145.
"I'm out of my ,element at 165 (pounds)," he said,
This Year's Prize Sponsors
"I'm a it heavy again."
Killam will have to focus on head -movement and
quickness to stay clear of the heavier punches.
Of course, he said that also goes for his opponent, as
he will also be throwing his extra weight into the ring -
so to speak.
Meanwhile, Natalie Grguric will be, going toe -to -toe
with Amber Williams - an undefeated boxer weighing in
at 129-130 pounds.
Grguric will be fighting at 121-122.
"I've fought Amber before," she said. "It was a
good fight - no holding. Just straight punching for four
rounds."
A claim to fame, Grguric is the only woman ever to
win a round against Williams - a feat she hopes to build
on Feb. 7.
"I tarnished her record," she said. "Which is sweet,"
Grguric has also completed the first part of

Meanwhile, boxing lessons continue at To-
tal Fitness throughout the week, with Grguric
also teaching a class at the YMCA Mondays.
"Classes have been huge," she said, not-
ing there is an encouraging number of young
people taking part.
Killam said a special Sunday class is re-
served for what he called team training.
"That's for people who want to become
fighters," he said. •
The club will be holding a silent auction
Feb. 14 at Suncoast Mall, with proceeds go-
ing to the Lakeview Boxing Club.
"There's something for everybody," Killam
said. "Guys, girls, gifts, sports... everything."
The club will also be giving a live demon-
stration highlighting boxing safety and tech-

started by Goderich resident Mike Bisset.
