"That's the second-best news. The best news is I'm fighting again." After spending a year outside the ring due to knee problems, Killam is on the road to recovery and look- ing forward to his Feb. 7 fight against 8 and 1 Darren Fletcher in Brantford. "I've got my robotic leg I have to wear when I fight," he joked, holding up the heavy-duty knee brace that will become part of his boxing attire. Putting on .a few pounds in his off -time, Killam will be fighting in the 168-170 weight class - a noticeable difference from when he last fought at 145. "I'm out of my ,element at 165 (pounds)," he said, This Year's Prize Sponsors "I'm a it heavy again." Killam will have to focus on head -movement and quickness to stay clear of the heavier punches. Of course, he said that also goes for his opponent, as he will also be throwing his extra weight into the ring - so to speak. Meanwhile, Natalie Grguric will be, going toe -to -toe with Amber Williams - an undefeated boxer weighing in at 129-130 pounds. Grguric will be fighting at 121-122. "I've fought Amber before," she said. "It was a good fight - no holding. Just straight punching for four rounds." A claim to fame, Grguric is the only woman ever to win a round against Williams - a feat she hopes to build on Feb. 7. "I tarnished her record," she said. Meanwhile, boxing lessons continue at To- tal Fitness throughout the week, with Grguric also teaching a class at the YMCA Mondays. "Classes have been huge," she said, not- ing there is an encouraging number of young people taking part. Killam said a special Sunday class is re- served for what he called team training. "That's for people who want to become fighters," he said. • The club will be holding a silent auction Feb. 14 at Suncoast Mall, with proceeds go- ing to the Lakeview Boxing Club. "There's something for everybody," Killam said. "Guys, girls, gifts, sports... everything." The club will also be giving a live demon- stration highlighting boxing safety and tech- nique., The Lakeview Boxing Club was originally started by Goderich resident Mike Bisset.
