Victoria PS
to house
double load
come fall
It will be a year of change as Goderich's
two elementary schools converge under one
roof for the first time next September.
But it's not the roof most people expect.
Grade K-6 students from Robertson Me-
morial will be making the trek to Gibbons
Street for the 2009-2010 school year, as Vic-
toria P.S. will house students during Robert-
son's transformation.
Grade 7 and 8 students from both pub-
lic schools will get their first taste of high
school, as they will be housed in Goderich
District Collegiate Institute on schedule.
However for junior and intermediate stu-
dents, there is one last stop on the way to an
amalgamated school.
The decision to delay the full transition
was made in November, after learning reno-
vation and construction at Robertson Me-
morial is not expected to be completed until
the end of 2009.
Heading the first batch of combined class-
es will be principal Deb Gill. Gill is the cur-
rent principal at Huron Centennial school
in Brucefield, and has also administrated in
Clinton and Zurich Public schools.
Meanwhile, Goderich residents were
asked their input in naming the new school,
with responses ranging from Champion El-
ementary to William Dunlop Elementary
School.
Tipping the scales, however, was the more
direct Goderich Public School.
Benefits to the name, as listed on the Avon
Maitland school board Web site, are it's eas-
ily identifiable and encompasses the com-
munity of both Robertson and Victoria.

Minor collision
While it may seem like one minor
accident involving one brand new
car, the stretch of road that the above
Pontiac G5 went careening off of is a
dangerous one according Harry Ely,
whose property boarders that road.
According to Ely this was the 17 acci-
dent of the season in front of his'
house on Highway 8.
