The Mcgeemotors.ca Atom Sailorettes have won their third tournament of the season, going undefeated in the Woodstock Wildcats .13th Annual tournament, on Jan. 2 to 4. In their first game, the Sailorettes faced off against the Walkerton Capitals. The Sailorettes controlled the game coming away with a 4-0 victory. The second game had them meet up with. a new oppo- nent, the Ingersoll Ice. This team is the most competition the girls have faced all year however the Sailorettes prevailed and skated to a 4-1 victory. • After winning the first two games, the girls knew they had advanced to the final. En route they sent London packing, handing them a 9-1 loss at the hands of Goderich's newest `B' team. • The final pitted the girls against the Ingersoll Ice once more, and while it was evident the Ice wanted to redeem themselves by defeating the Sailorettes, Goderich scored first and held onto that lead for the remainder of the game. Another Sailorette goal late in the third cemented the win after Ingersol pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The tournament was a huge success for the girls who outscored their opponents 20-2. Well done team. JUNIOR RINGETFE Emotions ran high in the Junior Ringette team's recent chippy contest against Seaforth. The Goderich ladies showed incredible intensity with their gritty play, play- ing short-handed seven times, Goderich still managed to equal their opponents on the scoreboard. The fans were treated to a spectacular goalie duel in the 4-4 tie. Goderich scored first at the 17:36 mark of the first period and for the rest of the game a tremendous see -saw battle ensued with Seaforth taking the lead on three differ- ent occasions. A truck -load of credit has to be given to netminder Mc - Ewan for several excellent toe saves, and the defensive play of Trebish, DenDunnen, MacKenzie, Oudshoorn and team captain Dietrich was magnanimous. The offence maintained steady pressure on Seaforth with an un- wavering stream of shots at the unsuspecting goalie. Superior preformances by Pentland, Cun- ningham, Hummel, Austin, John- son and Hillier ensured the team would not lose. Goals .by Johnson, Austin, Hummel and Dietrich were complemented by assists from Pentland, Hillier, Trebish, Hummel and MacKenzie. "A gutsy game for sure," quipped Assistant Coach Deb Aus- tin. "We'll have Seaforth's number next time." The Juniors play on the mad next Friday night against London, 7:30 p.m. at Carling Arena.
