The lightning struck the top of the roof close to the front of the church and loosened a few shingles. It carne clown through the roof above the gallery in the auditorium making a small hole in the ceiling, and fol- - lowing the hydro ' }vires into the switch box opened the door and blew out a few fuses..,- A pane of glass in one of the nearby windows was brok- en and some beleive it went through the window. COPIOUS SHOWERS HIVE VISITED THIS SECTION Rain was a welcome visitor to this section on Friday' last. Following a dry spell with some very hot wea- ther that was beginning to threaten some of the crops, Jupiter Pluvius released a shower that caused veget- tion to spring into new life and take on its second wind in the race' for one of the best crops that has ever been garnered in the district. It would almost seem that the rain had been storing tip and whenit started it ,assiuned almost deluge 'propor-! tions. On Saturday night' there was i a rain storm with 'sharp lightning and heavy thunder. The, storm came on in the evening when shopping was in full swing and Sherr the Salvation Army Band from London, was enter- taining the citizens on the street, The storm came up in a hurry and there was a: great scurrying around fora few minutes: The hydro lights went. off after one particularly, loud they onagain a1 crash but Y came sever niiriutl.s aftGt. Ile was born in the township of Usborae and was united in marriage to his now sorrowing widow whose maiden name was Jane Chambers. " For 16 years they resided in Michigan, They returned and for another 16 years they farmed at Chiselhurst and from there went to the west where several of their sons reside, The family con- lists of three sons and two daughters Edward and William near Moose Jaw Philip of Drinkwater, Sask.; Mrs. J. LARGE CROWD IN°1'ARIK ¶»% r1.E CAUGHT IN RAIN STOP \1 Any person who was in the parka Sunday night listening to the open` air meeting of the Salvation Army, and carne through with dry duds had every reason to count his many bles- sings Many a new straw hat and a lot of fine millinery met disaster; to say nothing of stunning gowns and chic frocks" Not a few Sunday suits were plastered with •mud as autos ploughed their way through soft ground, The park was filled with holes acrd trenches as a -result. The London I Silver Band of the Salvat- ion Army marched to Victoria park in the evening to give" an 'open-air con- cert. A. large crowd had assembled at the' park ahead of them while fol. - lowing ,,them car_le marry cars and lnany;'on that. It wasone ofthe lar- gest crowds that had ever assembled in the park'. Shortly .after the ser- vice had started a wind storm calve. up followed immediately by a very heavy downpour of rain. It came as a surprise to the large party assem- bled few, if any, of whom were prepared for rain. The Storm was accompanied by sharp lightning and thunder. Those who could, scrambled into cars, while others' scurried for shelter on nearby verandahs or any shelter they could get. A great many started for home and were drenched with the ram. The park was filled with cars -many having come from. a: long .distance: ''The. ground was soft from the previous rains and with the heavy downpour of rain it made the ground worse and when the cars started to move out many found the going very diffi- cult. Most of the cars had to be as- sisted. 'In some cases the hind wheelsploughed in up to the •axles and the cars were gotten out with difficulty. Just adjoining the park a large limb of a tree was blown down car- rying with it one of the hydro wires. As the wire came in contact with the wet grass flames of fire flared up., As most of those at the park had to pass the spot it was indeed fortunate that no accidents occurred. Just as Master Jack Pryde was passing his hat -blew off and he made an attempt. to get it but was caught just in time to avoid the- danger.
