After a dramatic turn -around, the
Goderich Pirates went from losing
their first period against the Tilson-
burg Thunder Friday, January 3, to
doubling them at the Maitland Rec-
reation Centre.
Dearing the first period, the Pirates
fell behind 2-1, with.their one marker
being scored by Deryk Whitehead,
assisted by Mark Wainman.
Half ,way through the second,
however the Pirates really took off,
scoring four goals to Tilsonburg's
one. Scoring for Goderich was Neil
Steenstra with his first of the season,
Scott Austin, Sean Burton and Mike
Gillen.
The third period saw Goderich
once again ahead, scoring three goals
to Tilsonburg's one. Pirates goals
were scored by Dillon Stokes, Bur-
ton, and Austin.
Assists for the game went to Gil-
len, Ian Gould, Stokes (3), Josh Lid-
dle, Dave Meriam (2), Ryan Stuart
and Whitehead
Pirates' general manager Trevor
Bazinet said that their next game,
versus first -place Petrolia, would be
one that Pirates fans should definitely
not miss.
"They're a first place team, and
we're playing them in our arena. It's
going to be a really good game," Ba-
zinet said. "We can beat anyone the
way we're playing, especially. in our
own barn."'
Bazinet also explained that the Pi-
rates will have to finalize their roster,
so the twenty five players that take
to the ice against Petrolia will be the
team that is going to the play-offs.
Bazinet said the crowds have been
good for the last few home games,
but hopes to see more fans cheering
their Pirates on.
"Friday's game was
a bad one to miss,"
he said. "It was really energetic and
fast -paced."
In previous Pirate action, Goderich
was able to put another big win under
their belt by beating Milverton 10-3.
Goals were scored by Burton (3),
Dave Little (2) Gould, Wainman,
Austin, Matt MacPhee and James
Gartshore
Assists went to Ryan Samworth,
Stokes (2), Gartshore, Kyle Hamil-
ton, Little, Gillen, MacPhee, Meri-
am, Gould, Wainman (2), and Tristan
Kolkman (2).
These two wins bring Goderich
within one point of Monkton, and put
them one point ahead of the Clinton
Radars in the standings.
The.Pirates play Petrolia next Fri-
day, January 16 at the MRC. Game
time is 8:30 p.m.
