class honors in others. Mr. Will
Strang was also successful in passing
his first year in Arts.
Two weeks ago The Times contain-
ed a notice of the death -of Mary, Jane
Waklin, beloved wife of William
Harris, Sr., of Carievale, Sask., aged
77 years, 7 months and. 16 days. The
deceased had been i11 for about nine
weeks with cancer of -the-stomach
and during her illness she suffered•a
great deal. The remains were inter-
red in the Workman cemetery, 'Car-
ievale, the cemetery being situated
on the corner of Mr. James Harris'
farm.
Seaforth•lost an old and respected
resident when Sarah Evelyn Waugh,
wife of Mr. J. H. Reid, superintend -
ant of the
Canada Furniture Factory,
passed away at her home at the age
of 62 years. Mrs. Reid had been in
poor health for a year, and under-
went two operations in Toronto,.
which however, failed to bring relief.
EXETER DISTRICT COt> vENTJ0N:'
The annual meeting of the Exeter
District of the Methodist church was
held. at Kirk -ton on Wednesday, 1VIay
17th. The thirteen ministers, in the
active pastorate on the district and
an equal number of laymen rep-
resenting the various circuits con-
stituted the gathering. Rev. G. W. W
Rivers B. A., B.D., of Hensail, chair-
man of the District presided and the
Rev. G. C. Gifford B. A., of Lucan,
was elected journal secretary. Tlie
reports ofthe circuits were read and
commented upon by the members of
the meeting and the state of the work
was passed in review. The statisti-
cal report was presented by Rev. P.E.
James M.' A., B. D., of Woodham, and
the report of Religious Education by
Rev. Robt. C. Copeland B. A., of
Kirkton. In preparation for the Gen-
eral Conference: of• Canadian Method-
ism that is held in Toronto in Sept-
ember, a good deal of time was spent
in discussing memorials to be for-
warded to that body for considera-
tion. These memorials have to do
with such matters as the forms 61
Annual circuit reports , the plan of
electiori of representatives from An-
nual Conferences to the General Con-
ference. A resolution of Provincial
and National importance was ordered
sent to the Attorney General of Ont-
ario -and to the press, it is as fol-
lows:. "Moved by the Rey. M. J. Wil-
son and seconded by Mr. joint Corn-
ish that we, the members of the Ex-
eter district ministers and laymen;
desire to express our' appreciation of
the fearless and unyielding attitude
of the Attorney General of Ontario,
honorable W. E. Raney, against ruin
running and violations of the Ontario
Teniphaiice Act.: And of the firm
position he is maintaining against
betting and all manner of vice, and
that copy of this resolution be sent
to Mr. Raney and to the press.
During the meeting of the District
the laymen met apart from the min-
isters and elected the lay delegates
to tile London Conference which
opens on Wednesday, May 31st, at
Centennial church, London: The
