It will doubtless mean a vision of what our children will enjoy in years tb • come. It is true that parks develop slowly, • all the more reason. that we should get to work early; AT ONCE, should be our motto'. The citizens in the vicin- ity of Victoria Park are asking for improvements, This is right. Those farther north have a vision of what Riverside Park will be like when the streets leading to it are improved as they should be, proper entrances at the north and south ends built, a driveway -around it laid. out and the trees planted and others to beplant- ed, will have • a fe•w more, -Years' growth added to them. The only advertis- ing of the bargains was done through the local press and this in only one The merchants of Exeter held their first Dollar Days an Friday and Sat- urday of last week. This being the first attempt at anything of the kind in Exeter it was more or less of: au experiment and many were the doubts as to bringing it on at this time of the year. The results how- ever, demonstrated that it was one of the greatest business boosters the town has ever had. In spite of the bad condition of some' of the roads and the threatening weather of Fri- day large crowds came to town at- tracted by the inducements that had been offered through, the advertising coltunns of the Ideal 'papers. It was a real get together for the merchants and buyers, after a particularly quiet spell in business. The merchants of- fered some worthwhile bargains tind the public were not slow to avail themselves of them. Ahnost every class of business was represented and allbenefittecl more or less from the large crowds that came to 1:0 W11. The fact was demonstrated that the public were ready to buy be neces- sities of life but that only a few were indulging in luxuries to any extent. Some of the general stores reported that Saturday's business was away in the lead of anything they had ex- I perienced for a single day:s business. The weather oh Saturday was ideal and lent itself to the success of the occasion. People came to town from long distances and went away pleas- ed with the values they received. So ar we have not heard any complaints ither .from merchants or the oust- mers they served. The two days eem to have been just the thing. In ddition to the business end it was a octal re -union of families and riends. It was a tired bunch of Exeter ArtStoreissue .that was circulated on the - Thursday before Dollar Days. Some • • - • . do:Lib-Led whether the papers would reach the public in time to be of army • benefit. That they did was amply demonstrated by the results.
