TREE PLANTING ON A LARGE
SCALE
The following news item was taken
from the Toronto Globe. It is repro-
duced to shear what some places are
doing to add to the beauty of their
surroundings.
Tree -planting " on a larger scale
than ever before will be tarried on
this spring throughtout Toronto's
nmediate :suburban district. In the
past year a number of new Hertic,u1-
weal Societies have been formed and
these, with other organizatioes, ere
now preparing to" make Toronto's
suburbs delightful wooded districts.
At n meeting last night in the
Willianin Burgess School. Torrens
avenue Todmorden ratepayers' de-
cided to ge into the wholesale young -
tree business. Trees -will be, pur-
Chased in great quantities and sold
to the members. every effort will
be made to eneourage the planting
of maples and elms along the streets
of the district. Definate arrange-
ments will be made at the regular
meeting- of the association on Tues-
day night when J. McFerson Ross
of Toronto, will address the members
on tree ideating and gardening-.

'Weeton horticulturalists will plant
some hundreds of trees. The newly
organized Horticultural Soceity itt
Mount Dennis will follow Weston's
example. Members of Agincourt
Horticultural Society, will. When the
Planting time comes, take a Whole

kings from the neighboring wood -lots
and plant them along the streets of
the village.
Mimic() is now well supplied with
shade trees. As 'there would be
little use in planting more the Hor-
ticultural Society have •nridertaken to
have them all pruned by forestry
experts. Next to Weston Mimic° is

with a painful accident while work-
ing in Dell's saw mill. While in op-
eration the circular saw struck a
loose slab which -was thrown with
great force, striking Mr. Smith be-
tween the heart and stomach, and
