Mr. Win. Leavitt entertained the
hockey boys to an oyster supper one
evening last week.
The Exeter Junior hockey team
will play the Hensel]. Juniors next
Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. E. A. Follicle returned home
on Thursday last after spending sev-
eral weeks in Toronto. .”
Mr. Hauch, of Brucefield, visited
his brother-in-law, Mr. G. S. Howard
on Friday -of last week.
Mr. Harry Statham has returned'to
Acton after visiting for several 'weeks
with his brother Win. J.
Miss Minretta`Horney R. N'., who,
visited her mother and other rela-
tives in Exeter, has returned to her
duties in Chicago.
Ice harvest 'has been going on z in
full swing for over a week. The ice
is in excellent shape. It is being ta-
ken away on wheels.
Mr. - Jolin C. Cousins, reeve of
Westminster Tp:, was 'Chosen war-
den of the County of -Middlesex on
the ninth ballot 'Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Buttler, of
London are visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Perkins of town and his par-
ents M. and Mrs. Wm..Buttler• of
Cromarty during the week.
Mrs. G. S. Howard, wife of. Princi-
pal Howard, of the public .school, is;
undergoing treatment in St. Joseph
Hospital London, and will soon be
able to return home. She has made
an excellent recovery.
This section has been visited by a
severe cold snip' during the past few
days. The thermometer registered
eight'' degrees below zero, ' Tuesday
night. On Saturday nrgnt a storm
from the west raised a lot of dirt
from the fields which found its way
into many houses.
The house on Station. St. belonging'
to Mr. Julius Sokolof was sold by
auction on Saturday to Mr. Hy. Kes-
tle for $1,200. Messers Sokolof'and
Amy -Wexler were in town settling up
their affairs. At present they are
conducting a junk yard in Toronto.
Mrs. Chas. Birney had the misfor-
tune to fall down • stairs at her home
last week, receiving a bad shaking up
and several bruises.. Mrs. Birney
slipped on the top step and fell to
the bottom. She is able to be.'a
round again,.
The ,chalIenge issued by the U. F.
0. to the citizens of Exeter, to debate
the question whether the policy of
the Progressives was in the interests
of Exeter and surrounding commun-
ity has not as yet been accepted.
Any three citizens have been invited
to take the negative side.
"Miss Johnston, nurse who has been
on an extended visit with her sister
in Saskatchewan, returned home on
Friday of last week and is again in
charge of Dr. Hyndman's hospital.
Miss Agnes Fenwick, who has been in
charge of the hospital for, several
weeks left for her honi'e at Farquhar.

John Taylor had a narrow
escape from serious injuries when
she fell down a flight of stairs, at
her home on Thursday' of last week.
The fall was heard by her son Frank
who was in the cellar at the time and
he rushed to her assistance, finding
her in a precarious condition. She
was much bruised and shaken up but
is.

The Exeter Sport Club held their
first skating party at the Dome rink
last Friday; evening after which they
repaired to Messrs. Harvey & Har-
vey's restaurant where a dainty
lunch was served. The following of-
ficers and committees were elected,

SOCIAL EVENING AT THE "Y"
A very successful social evening
was held at the Y. P. C. A. rooms on
Thursday evening of last week. A
very sumptuous supper was served at
6.30, by the Mission Circle of James
street church, followed by a.sing
song and several toasts. Mr. Flann,
of the Canadian Bank of Commerce,
replied to a toast to "Canada and the
Empire", Mr. Miller of the High
School staff, responded to a toast to
"Physical Culture" and Mr. Geo.rge
Hind to a toast to the "Ladies". The
remainder of the evening was spent
in amusements. All enjoyed a very
sociable evening.
