The county Council does - a great deal .more work now than it did ten years ago and more thanever directs the affairs of the municipali- ties. He gave a report' 04 the Child- • ren's Aid society stating that 34 children were placed in homes for adoption. Regarding the County Home, the reeve said the institution is well looked after and serves well the aged poor of the cotinty. He then dealt with the Good Roads Cern- mission. The cost of the commission in 1920 was 260O. By special ef- fort this was reduced in 1921 to $725.00. Stanley tp. has on the av- erage the, best roads in the county. The Lake Shore road has now been made a Provincial road, the province paying , 20 per cent s'of the cost of mainteilance. It costs less to educate pupils in the county •than by sending them out of the county as the county has to pay the'cost at the school they attend. 1 -le next took tip the matter of the county jail, recommending the uniting of connties to Maintain one • jail, as ‚very few prisoners have been held ix jail tit Goderich, in ,recent Years. Wingham, be said, had put dOwn about half mile of pavement this year and the cost was greater in proportion than what Exeter's cost. 'Coming, to' Town affairs, he recom- mended printing in a revised form the by-laws of the village of Exeter for circulatio 21 11121021g the citit,,mate He then left the Matter of town busi- ness to the conlicillOrs to deal with.
