Ailsa Craig, ;Oct. 14.—This village
was to -day ;the scene of operations
by 'five smooth -talking, well anp,ear-
ing strangers wh made a brief visit
arriving here in a hendsonae. ,touring
car that gave the impressions of much
wealth and affluence!, by ,neverltheless
they were. not adverrse ;to adding a .few
snore dollars to their wad. Entering
a store one would ask for scme. trival

ment. When"the. change was brought
either the same man or another of the

' just the necessary amount of small
change in his pocket and that there
was no need for changing the big bile

• picked up the change, but hearing his

ly offer it back said receive the 520
bill in exchange. But when the store-
keepers checked the change over af-
ter watching .their customer's depar-
ture they found that they„had been

Exeter High Scliool held a ; very
successful field day oa Friday last,
with Parkhill and Lucan students tak-
ing
ating part. The weather was ideal. The
track events were mosily won. by
Exeter students. Exeter also won
the tug -o. -war, defeating teams from
both the other schools. In basket ball
Parkhill defeated Exeter after Exeter
bad won. from Lucan.., Miss Vera
Hobbs of Lucen won six prizes, four
firsts and two. seconds AL the con-
clusion of the snorts ,an excellent re-
past was served by the. Exeter pupils
in the high school.builcling, and ad-
dresses were delivered by Principal
Wethey and errs, McAllister, There
was a short ,musical nrogram, and at 8
o'clock all adjourned to the Tcwn
