Airs. Burke received the sad news
on Saturday last of the death, of her
niece Mrs. xi.,eaehfield, formerly Net-
tie Moore, only daughter of Mr, and
ears, John Moore of Wa,wota, Sask.,
former well-known .residents of Ex-
eter, she shaving died in Detroit on
Saturday morning, after a short illness
She was raged 36 years and besides
the husband is survived by an adopted
daughter. Mrs. Burke left Sunday to
attend the funeral which took place
on Mogelay,

At the meeting of the Presbytery of
Huron hetd in Hensa,il on. May 11th,
Dr. Collie Fletcher resigned his
charge of Thames Road and Kirkton,
and it was agreed to make application
on his behalf to ,the Assembly for
leave to retire from the active work
of the ministry. The congregation
will present .their caste at the next
regular meeting of the Presbytery, Dr.
Fletcher was recently moderator of
the General Assembly, the highest of-
fice en the gift of the Presbyteriaen
Church itt Csints;da, and he has had a
long and useful mi,nni,stry,

An incipient fire, was nipped in the
th,e bud at the Presbyterian manse on
efonday shortly after one o'clock,
Mrs, Foote had been using the elec-
tric iron and had disconnected the
cord to attend to some other house-
hold duties, when in her absence her
little daughter again connected ' the
cora to the iron and ,in, some way the
iron. came cat contact with the wain-
scoting, burning {quite a hole therein
before it was discovered, Luckily it
it had not developed into a blaze;
otherwise the house might have been
