The condition of being "rim down" 'is one that doctors do not recoguit,e as a disease. The physician of to -day who gets his training in a hospital' where only severe disorders are en- countered knows little about it. But.. those who are run down in health know that it is not a fancied affliction. • The expression "run down" applied to health, means a condition in which all the bodily functions are enfeebled. Appetite fails, the digestion is im- paired, the nerves are impoverished, the complexion becomes pale or waxy, there is no animation, but rather worry and mental depression. Fatigue Is a constant symptom. No particular iorgan being affected, you must look for relief to the blood. As it circulates ,through every part of the body, any •improvement in the condition of the blood is quickly felt throughout the .entire system. As a restorer of the 'blood and, builder of weak nerves Dr. Williams' Pink Pills stand at the head tot all tonic medicines. very dose of 'these pills helps to enrich the blood awl strengthen the nerves, and thus ;the various organs regain their tone and the body recovers its full vigor. `Ample proot of thle is given in the statement of Mr. William Devine, Ger. read Street East, Toronto, who saYs: "Two years ago while eelployed as a conductoe on the Toronto Street Rail. way, 1 became much run down. I consulted a doctor wlio gave uie medi- cine, but it proved fruitless,as I was !constantly growing weaker. My apt petite completely failed and 1 fell away in weight until I only weighed 125 pounds. I was aometimes taken with fainting spells, and Anally felt compelled to resign my position. z .tried what I thought was lighter work, ' but with no better results. I was glowing weaker and weaker. One day a chum urged me to try Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, but by this time I was heartily tired of medicine, as nothing I hail taken did me any good. Finally he bought rue a box of the pills, and I could no longer refuse to try them, After a- time I felt. they ere helping me and then I gladly coin/limed their use, with the result that I was finally enabled to go back to niy old position fully restored to health. I owe this splendid condition to Dr. William' Pink Pills, and can strongly recom- mend them to anyone suffering as I did." Dr. Wilnams' Pink Pills can be ab - tallied through any medicine dealer, or may bo had by email, past paid, at 60 cents a box or six boxes for $2,5o from the Dr. Williams° tlectieine Co., Brockville, Ont. The Rainbow's Sound. Incredible as it may seem, as beam ` of light can be made to produce sound. A ray of sunshine is thrown through a Iens on to a glass vessel containing !lampblack, colored silk or worsted, or any like substance. A disk having Slits or openings cut in it is made to ,revolve swiftly in this beam of light, so as to "cut it tip," thus causing alter- jnate flashes of light and shadow. .when one places his ear to the glass :vessel he hears strange sounds so long as the flashing beam falls upon the vessel. A still more extraordinary effect is produced when the beam of sunlight is made to pass through a. prism so as to produce what is called the solar spectrum. The disk is turned and the ;colored light of the rainbow is inade ;to break through it. Now if the ear lie placed to the vessel containing the ;silk o3'"other material, as the colored flights of the spectrum fall upon it, sounds will be given out by the.,.dif- erent parts of the spectrum, and here will be silence in other parts. For instance; if the vessel contains iced worsted and the green light flash- es upon it, loud°sounds will be given forth. Only feeble sounds will be }heard when the red and the blue parts of the rainbow fall upon the ves- aiel. Other colors will produce no ?sounds at all. Green silk>'gives out 'sound best in a red light. Every kind of material gives more or less sound itt different colors and nosound at all in others. —..tae We must be doing eomething to be 3lappy—action is no less necessary to us than "thought: Hazlitt. Sims said same amusing things about the Turkish navy, "It's no wonder," said he, "that the Turks failed to do much on the water in the war. The Turks were never a maritime people. The story goes, in fact, that when they came to set up a navy in Turkey they were very moil? embarrassed by the lack sof naval words In their language. They had no word for mainsail, no word for fore -topgallant, and so on. To get aver the dif loulty the Turks tied such things as vegetables to the dit ferent sails and ropes, and the men learned their duties to such com- mands as; " 'Hoist the potato 1' 'Now, then, my hearties, let go the tomato with a wall' 'A11 hands aloft to reef the beef- steak!' " How to Do it: The offce`boy carie into the office, hat on head, and slamming the door behind him, said abruptly, "Can I 'ave the 'alt day oft to go to a football match, guv'nor?" "That's not the way to come in," said the boss. "Now, you take my seat, and I'll show you the way you should enter." The boss went outside, and on com- ing in again closed the door quietly, and in a meek voice, said, "Please, sir, may I have the afternoon off in order to go and see a football match?" "Yes," retorted the boy, "and here's a quarter to spend." • The nut -trees of the world, it 1 calculated, :could- provide food .all the year round for the population of the globe. She will re- place the Queen EIizabeth as flagship of the Atlantic fleet. Possibly the new Hood will be the last of her kind; it is certain no other will be delivered in the next four years. The giant vessel, held officially to be a perfect blend of battleship and battle cruiser, represents the naval architect's idea of a practical realiza- tion of an ideal fighting ship. She em- bodies all the lessons of the war. She is 860 feet long, with a displacement of 41,200 tons, has a horse -power of 144,000 and a designed speed of 31 knots. Her main armament consists of eight 15 inch guns' and her second- ary armament of twelve 5.6 inch and four 4 'inch anti-aircraft guns. Her full load of oil fuel is 4,000 tones. A "blister" renders her unsinkable by any existing torpedo. When com- pleted for sea the Hood will have cost $30,000,000, and the annual cost of her maintenance in commission will be $2,5000,000. . He said some of it was much farther away than other parts and asked Y why she wanted to know. She said that they had sent tee son—a fisherthanwho had joined the navy there, and that she would never see him again, and with that she fell to sobbing. Her lodger did his best to comfort her land told her that people came back from Russia as they did from other foreign parts. "Not from where they'ver sent him," she said.
