KICKED IN FACE.
Mr. S. N. Scott of the 3rd of Ste-
phen ssnstai-ned a most severe injury
on. Friday at noon, when a horse kick-
ed him in the face; and arm. We tun-
deristand he was taking the horse to
the stable after the morning work, and
fcr some unknown reason the beast
kicked with both feet, one hoof strik-
ing him in the face and the other, en.
the arm The face injury is severe
the jaw bone being broken.

DR, GRANT WILL SPEAK..
Dr, A S. Grant of Toronto has been
made the MMaxshall Foch of Ontario
is the battle between the; Temperance
and Liquor forces in the coming ref-
erendum vote. All the Temperance'
organizations have united behind one
central committee headed by Dr.
Grant, a prominent Presbyterian min-
ister, and capable organizer, and he
will have charge of the campaign: At
the Huron County Temperance Con-
tention to be held in the Presbyter-
ian'church, Clinton, on. Junie, 17, Dr,
Grant will speak at both sessions.
NEARLY A FIRE.
On Friday afternoon Pong Kwong.
on delivering laundry at the home of
Major Heaman noticed that one room
was filled with smoke and on roves-
t_gation he found the hydro iron was
burning into 'the wtood, on which it
tea; resting. Not knowing the "com-
bination -he caked in a neighbor and
the power was stoon._ turned off and
the hoard taken outside., A few, min-
utes mere, however, and the result
might have been 'different. Mrs. Hea-
man had been a frig the iron and be-
ing called away for a few minutes she
omitted to shut off the power.
CAR TURNED OVER.
Oen Thurisday morning last Mr. W.
A, Balkwill had an unpleaisant exnes..-
ierce when chasing his Ford car west
of Crediton. In passing another "car
and in turning out the sleeve of his
shirt caught in, the leaver whiich con-
troled the ;gain ,supply and before l;e
could get it shot off, the car had turn

road, When, the driver of the other
car stopped and came over to the ov-
.rturned car the engine wast still run -
rang and Mr. B'alkwpai was; underneath,
not badly injured, and after stopping
the engine he crawled out, and found
his malar injury was a cut osst'he knee.
The top and wiindslhi✓eld of the cat
were damaged. After righting the car
Mr. Balkwill was able to drive home,
and is now nearly wall again.
