Monday delivered a monster pig 'to
Messrs. I. Armstrong & Son for ship-
ment It weighed 745 lbs. and the

At Hamiota, Man., on March 11'th
the death occurred of a former resi-
dent of Us•borne Township„ wear
Woodham, in the person of` Mrs. Wm
Hern, at the age of 66 years This is
the third bereavement in Mr. Herres
family within three months from the
influenza. Dtectealsed had n t been in
best of health for two or hree years
and the recent loss of is sons, Gil-
bert and Sidney, were ' evere blows.

OrFsiday last a very pleasing pro-
gram was enjoyed by our pupils.: It
showed the talent .of our High School_
boys, who supplied the entertaininent.
George C. Hind presided; James. Mor-
ley gave an excellent address; Stewart
Stnnbury gave an instrumental, J. Ayl-
mer Christie a reading; Willie Law-
son an instrumeuvtal; Rev, 'Trumper a
talk on the value of public speaking;
Charlie Ford and Earl Russella dia-
logue self composed; the School Song
Brenda a chorus, "Heroes and Gen-
tlemen"; The Live Wire, the school,
parser, was read by the editor, Char-
lie Fond; and Rev. Trumper gave his
criticisms. ,
MRS, DAVIS DEAD.
'' The funeral of the late Mrs. Susan
Diaz is, w•`n. held at Exeter, Ont., Mon-
day, March 17th. Mrs. Davis was in
good health until two weeks ago when
,she .took .'sick and after a, short ill-
niess passed away. Mrs. Davis was
born November 16, 1843, and was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Grant
of ,Biddulph. Tawaaasllip, where hes,
girlhood was spent. In 1859 she mar-
ried William Davis .and in 1874 they
moved to Exeter and have -been res-
pected residents of this place for 44
years. She was predecteased by her
husband two years and frne months.

The death occurred at St, Marys on
March 17th of Lizzie Balkwild, relict
of the late Samuel. Sperling, at the age
of 81 years, D aenihed was a sister
of the late Mrs. Isaac Carling, Mrs.
John McDoneld, and Mrs. Joseph, Aeh-
esont of Exeter. A brother, Mr, fames
Balkvvill, xe,-ikles at Dutton, and a
sister, Mrs. Carruthers near Oriltia,
One sou survives, Frank Spading of
Toronto, and three daughter, "Mrst
Reg Wilson of the West, Mrs, John
Adams and Miss Florrie. of St. Marys.
Messrs W, T. Acheson and A. J.
McDonel. and Mrs, (Dr.) Browning at-
tended the funeral at St. Marys on

On Monday evening the returned
soldiers of Exeter and surrounding
district met in. the Library and or-
ganized a braatch of the Great War
Veterans' Association. Secrgtary
Cunliffe and Comrade Ashley of Lon-
don were here and assisted in the
work of organizing. Rooms are to be
secured, and in the meantime The
C• :sada Club offered the uso of their
club ;rooms and furnishings for six
months, while the ladies of the Sol-
diers' Aid Society offered to finance
the rooms for that pentad. The fol
lowing officers were acted for one
year, -President, W. J: Heaton; Vice
Lloyd Rivers; Sec.-Treas., W. J, Rus-
sell, The 'citizens k of Exeter and dis-
trict feel like doing everything pos-
sible to assist the veterans in their
organization, and under the guidance
of the officers of the associajtion it
is hoped that the boys will be made
comfortable as to club rooms,

owing to the death of Mr, McAlister's
Mother, which occurred on Sunday.
