DEATHS OF JOHN DAUNCEY

The people of Exeter were greatly
surprised and shocked on. Thursday
afterno-an last to hear that Mr. John
Dauncey lead•. that afternoon while
sitting in Mr. Geo. Mantle's office.
sustained a stroke of paralysis. After
being given temporary relief he war
taken to his home and there given•ev•-•
ery care, but he passed away of Fri-
day .evening, January 17th, at the
age. of 75 years, 5 months. Mr. Daun-
cey had been. in his usual good health
up to the. time of being stricken. For
two years, prior to her demise last
September his wife had been art in-
valid and had :needed great care, and
as Mr, Dauncey had been, in constant
atteenda;nce upon, her it is surmised
that bis health had suffered in con. -
sequence, although hehad not com-
plained. Born. near Toronto he had
afterwards Iived i'rt various parts of
Canada and the. States, and was high-
ly esteemed by a wide circle of ac-
ouarntances and friends, who regret
to hear of his sudden departure. He
was a railway contractor and builder
both in Canada and United State; for
several years; he, conducted saw mills
ie. Grey Townshaip and McGillivray; he
bought grain at Seaforth and Exeter.
and conducted a market garden near
London, returning to Exeter about
four years ago, and since that time
lived a semi -retired life., His wife
died last fall. Two brothers survive;
Joseph Dauncey of .Crediton end Tas-
sel of Lucan Crossing, He was a
consistent Methodist in religion and
a staunch Conservative in politics.
The funeral took place to Exeter cern
Petery on, Sunday. afternoon

Dignan, bad the az* fortune to fall
one day this week while skating and
sprain the muscles of one of her legs.
It will be some days before she will
be about again.

odist Church enjoyed. a banquet in the
basement of the church on 1Tonday
evening. After a dainty supper a
toast lost \Vas proposed and respond
ed to, the pastor, Rev. J. W, Baird

DIES.
Mr. John. Browse, keeper of Huron
House of Refuge, died at Clinton on
Saturda) last, Mr. Brown has :seen
in charge of the Horne for about
four years and had been. very suc-
cessful in the work. During the last
few months he had been. failing in
health owing to anaemia He was
about 55 years of age and weaves a
widow and one son. The remains
were brought by train to Exeter on
Hondas morning, and taken to the
home of his son Wil Mama south of
Grand Bell from where 'the funeral
