There was considerable doubt about
the result in South Hurloln an Mon-
day-night
on-day-night and not until Tuesday+ night
was definite ward received. There
was a mix - up in Hallett ;count, and
it had to be 'Straightened out. All
doubt has been 7�rnlaved' and Mr, J.
J. Merner the Unionist candidate is
elected over Mr. Thos: ,McMillan by
a majority of 47. It seems impossiblq
to get the result by polls, this week
as in some townships •they kept not
record of it. So that detailed results
may have to stand over until the ,of-
ficial. count' -an. January 4 ,,.Mr. Mer-
per's majority will , undoubtedly be
increased b,y the soldiers' ;vote, but
that will _not be-•l:niown for sometime.
The town; and villages and. Iwo town-
shiips -gave Mr. Merner majorities, but
four townships voted heavuly-for, Mc-
Millan, particularly in th.e T.ownt
