On. Tuesday last Dr. Browning com-
pleted his fiftieth tyear as a practis-
ing physician in Exeter. Needless to
say the Doctor Alas been a success
in his chosen profession and the Ad-
vocate congratulates him on his long
service and hopes to see him can,

A lengthy program of vocal and in-
strumental music was given in. the
Opera House on Thursday evening
at the Recital given by the pupils of
Mrs. Gambrill, and a large number
were present, airs. Garnbrill has a
large class and the various selections
were tth"orougbly appreciated.
The Concert given in Dome; Thea-
tre on Wednesday ,evening of last
Week by the "Little Canucks" under
the training of Miss Murrayu,teacher,
attracted a large attendance, who ex-
pressed delight with the many num-
bers of the ,program which consisted
of songs, readings, dialogues, instru ,
mentals, etc., by the scholars of her
room. The Hanna Orchestra assist-
ed in the musical numbers. Thespro-
ceeds went to Y. Ma. C. A. purposes,
Miss Murray is to be congratulated on
the excellence of the entertainment.

Louise Tiernay beloved wife of Dr. J.
A. McTaggart had passed away, after
only .a little over a days illness. Thus
is removed, from our midst one of
the inost popular and esteemed of aur
residents, The late Mrs..hIcTaggart
was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. _J.
B. Tierney, of East Wawa,nsash, and
had spentt all her life in the commun-
ity. She was a perslonof most lave -
able disposition and held the good -will
and esteem of all. She 'took a deep
int erest in. the work of Tr'iii,b
Church and was a me,tuber of the
choir. The floral tributes placed on
the casket attested the ,esteem in
which she held.

farcical comedy, "Why Smith Left
1-lome," put on +by the Exeter Ama-
teur Dramatic Club, .under the aus-
pices of the 'Soldiers' ',Aid Society, in
the Opera House on Friday evening,
proved to he all that was claimed
for it and more. The, play was a most
amusing and laughable one, and all
who were present thoroughly enjoyed
it; ''%'he story''hinges 'on the fact -that
